Sometimes we get caught up in all the ways we fail as a friend or just as a human being in general. I personally pick apart myself and highlight my flaws in my mind. Recently, I have tried to be more positive in life, and one way of doing that is by fully loving myself. I've asked some of my closest friends to tell me some words they would use to describe me and why they chose those words. Hearing these words was an eye opener, and reminded me that although I have flaws, I still have good qualities that I fail to recognize.

Diligent & Hardworking

My friend Greysee used the word diligent to describe me. She said, "You're a super hard worker and accomplish almost everything you set your mind to." My other friend Montana used the word hardworking. Her words were, " You give 100% all the time! You never give up until your task or goal is met! You always are on task and never get distracted!" These two words are some that I constantly forget to remember. I stretch myself thin with all of the activities I am involved in both in and out of school along with my part-time job. This semester in particular has been one of the busiest times of my life. Just remembering that I am a hard worker allows me to relax and , that I am doing okay.

​Compassionate & Generous

Michaelynne, my best friend since the seventh grade, used the word compassionate to describe me. Her reasoning was, "You always care for people and are there for them." Greysee also used the word generous to describe me. She told me, "You're always giving people gifts and helping them out whenever they need it." From a young age, I have always had a tough exterior because I was afraid to get hurt. Sometimes I forget that just because I put on this front doesn't mean that I am truly a mean and hard person.

​Leader & Organized

When it comes to being in a group of people, I naturally like to be put in charge and run things. When my friend Rebecca used leader to describe me, I honestly had to agree with her when she told me, "You are a natural leader and thrive when you are directing a group or organizing an event." When it comes to being organized, I am what I like to call "selectively organized". In tasks that involve other people, I am super duper organized. When it comes to my room or car, I am super duper messy. When I had two friends tell me that was one word they would use to describe me, I was a little shocked, but I still understood.

In society today, it's hard to accept our flaws when we are constantly told we shouldn't have any to begin with. Through different strong people in my life, like my mom or my teacher who got breast cancer, I have learned that my flaws are beautiful.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines.
