YPSILANTI MI- The death of a female 20-year-old Eastern Michigan University student late Thursday night is currently being investigated by police.
Ypsilanti Police Department is looking into the incident that happened right before midnight on March 17. An EMU student was struck and killed by an Amtrak train near the Leforge Rd. and Huron River Drive area on the north side of campus.
According to a release from the Ypsilanti Police Department, they were called at about 11:50 p.m. March 17 to a train crash with a pedestrian in the 1000 block of W Michigan Ave. Teaming up with Amtrak investigators, the police found a woman nearby. The woman was a resident of Brownstown Township and resided at Hill Hall on EMU's campus.
EMU Police had received a well-being check call from an acquaintance regarding possible suicidal tendencies about the victim around the same time as the incident was reported.
