When I finally got to hang out with my sisters and mother in New York, the Empire State Building was one destination that we wanted to go to. The reason was that my sisters and mother were huge fans of the 1993 film, "Sleepless in Seattle." The famous landmark in the movie is the Empire State Building. This was the site where the two main characters finally met each other eye to eye. Therefore, this ideal romantic place inspired us to go check the top of the Empire State Building.
As we were happily opening the door and recognizing the familiar outfits that the security guards wore similar to the film, we were told that we have to pay tickets to go up. No problem, we thought... until we saw the prices of those tickets. If we want to go, it would be $57 per person. Our jaws dropped. Since it was four of us, the total would be $228.
After 15 minutes of deciding whether to go up to the top of the Empire State Building, we decided not to go. Then, we took some pictures of the miniature Empire State Building that they have in the lobby. After, we took a glimpse of the picture frames that depicts how the top view of the Empire State Building would look like if we were up there. I almost got discouraged because I was coming into the Empire State Building happily like Meg Ryan from the movie, but I didn't reach to the top with my sisters and mother. Though it was a shame that we didn't go, at least we have an idea of how it would be.
My mother, sisters, and I discussed that it would have been better if the prices were cheaper. Come to think about it, lots of people did not go up either. My sisters and mother said that the landmark should follow quantity over quality. This way, lots of people can go up and enjoy the landmark. Then, they can make lots of money and business.
New York is always expensive. It's even hard to get food and drinks there because of their prices and small quantities. However, we enjoyed the other sites in New York, like the Big Disney Store and Times Square. The screens on those buildings made it awesome to gaze upon. We also learned that when going around New York, things go by number and street only. Their streets do not consist of common names like we usually see in New Jersey.
For me, although the film of "Sleepless in Seattle" hinted about the message of chasing what you want, especially from an ideal romance, this destroyed my hopes a little. It was too good to be true.
When nighttime arrived, we left and went further away from the Empire State Building. The view from there still looked beautiful with its bright lights.
