The Emotions of Draft Day

Is it Draft Day yet?

The Emotions of Draft Day

If you have ever stepped foot on the Nichols College campus- you know what Draft Day is. We have an interest (obsession, maybe) with the dive bars in the little farm town we call home. Thursdays have taken on their own title, these are the nights our student body files into a neat line to get into the local dives. Thursdays are no longer Thursdays; Thursdays are Draft Day. And Draft Day is like Christmas morning on this campus.

1. Realizing its Draft Day as soon as you open your eyes.

Today is the day. THE DAY. Wake up your roommates and let them know. Draft Day is here, the winter of our lives is over.

2. Trying to sit in through class.

Like, professor, we get it. The paper is due Monday by midnight. But listen, it's Draft Day. I have plans to make, people to call, beers to drink.

3. Blowing up the group chat with plans.

Sending out a text to the GC that says something along the lines of "rise and shine losers it Draft Day" is not uncommon.

4. Yelling at every person you see on campus "Draft Day?"

There is some kind of unity in only asking a two-word question and knowing exactly what that person means. And, by the way, the answer is always "yes."

5. Finally being done with classes and work.

I'm hauling it back to Rem Hall to listen to Nicki Minaj and hype up my friends for the night of recklessness to begin.

6. Finally getting ready to go out.

Yes, I've been thinking about what I'm going to wear tonight since Tuesday... whatever.

7. The Pregame.

Come over by nine. I'll almost always still be getting ready but I need the push to finish my makeup in a decent amount of time.

8. Trying to find a ride for everyone.

Why do we always, always, always wait until the last minute to try and find a DD?

9. Pulling up and knowing it's about to go down.

This is my time to shine. Get me a drink and meet me on the dance floor. It is my Draft Day and it is not going to waste.

10. Enjoying the Draft.

Draft Day is the best day, after all.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.

Tamatoa created a liar filled with shiny things simply for the purpose of tricking fish to enter and become his food. He too experiences a lesson in how easy it is to be tricked by shiny things when Moana distracts him by covering herself in glowing algae so Maui can grab his hook.
