Emotions As Told By Country Tunes

We’re all humans. I know when I’m upset, I turn to music to help calm me down and think things through. Just like us, the various types of music genre’s have their own qualities and personalities. For me, my genre is country, and just like us, these songs have emotions too! You’ll find happy songs, sad songs, sexy songs, and even songs of encouragement. Whenever I’m upset, I turn to my country playlist and jam to some of the tunes listed below.

1. The Song of Joy - "Toes" (Zac Brown Band)

How could this song not represent Joy the best way possible? He has his toes in the water, butt in the side, not a worry in the world and a cold beer in his hand. That image right there just sounds like pure happiness and joy.

2. The Song of Fear- "The Climb" (Miley Cyrus)

This song exemplifies fear. Although the lyrics are encouraging and beautiful, it’s about feeling lost and shaken to the core. You never really know what life is going to throw at you, and you just gotta take what comes at you and run with it. You’re gonna lose some and win some, but that doesn’t mean you should fear the unexpected. The moments in life when you’re too afraid to keep going are the moments you need to keep going the most.

3. The Song of Sadness - "Drink A Beer" (Luke Bryan)

Although this song is about losing someone close to you, which is already a sad time in your life, says what it really feels like to be sad. We all get a little sad in life sometimes and there’s no possible way to avoid that. Half the time something upsets us, we don’t know why it had to happen.

4. The song of Anger/Revenge - "Wasted All These Tears" (Cassadee Pope)

Where in this world is there more anger than when you’re bitter towards an ex that has done you wrong one too many times. This is man has hurt her so much she is absolutely done crying over him and his actions. This song is such a powerful jam to just ugly cry and scream at the top of your lungs all at once. Heck, even if you’re crying over your empty bank account and just need to get emotions out, give this bad boy a chance.

5. The Song of Love - "Saint or A Sinner" (Hunter Hayes)

Okay, for starters, Hunter Hayes had to be on this list somewhere, he’s only my favorite artists. But that’s beyond the point. This song is a beautiful representation of what love should be. The message of this song is whether he’s right or wrong, whether he’s in a moment of weakness or strength, she’s there for him every step of the way. If that’s not love, then I don’t know what is.

6. The Song of Envy/Jealousy - "Girl Crush" (Little Big Town)

This song exploded everywhere over the year of 2015, but there’s no better song to explain jealousy. Her old man is with a new girl, and she’s so jealous of this new woman that she wants to be in her position to see how good she really is, but more importantly, she wants her man back and he’s over her. The hurt in the lyrics of this song is incredible and cut deep. Anyone who has gone through the process of trying to move on from an ex and seeing them go right along is painful, so even hearing these lyrics will take you back to that time in your life.

7. The Song of Encouragement - "Follow Your Arrow" (Kacey Musgraves)

What better way to encourage someone than to hear a somebody telling you to not be afraid of being who you are. I think the bigger message of this song is saying don’t go down anyone else’s path but the one that you were meant to go down. Don’t be ashamed of the things you’ve done, or the people you knew. Don’t change and tell everyone else who tells you otherwise to suck it, because you’ll never be able to please everyone, so you do you.

8. The Song of Confidence - "Downtown" (Lady Antebellum)

HIllary Scott is owning herself in this song, and it’s absolutely fantastic. She doesn’t understand why her man can’t afford to show her off. She’s ready to get all dressed up and to be shown off. She’s only saying that she deserves to treated like a classy lady rather than an old pair of sneakers that just sit in your closet. Every lady should have this mindset. Own yourself and defend yourself.

9. The Song of Moving On - "Save it For a Rainy Day" (Kenny Chesney)

Why focus on the negative of everything when you could keep in mind that there’s more to life than the heartache and grief you’re feeling? Don’t bring the people you care about most down with you; let them lift your spirits and let me make you forget why you were so upset in the first place! Enjoy that drink, and save it for a day when the sun ain’t shining!

10. The Song of Wildin' Out - "Sun Daze" (Florida Georgia Line)

When I think of a lazy day, I think of Sunday. However, flipping it around in this awesome song, FGL talk about playing some flip cup, hitting the joint a few times, and flirting with that hottie by the pool. This makes every single person who listens to this wish they were once again on Spring break during college again! This song is all about forgetting your responsibilities and just letting go for once and doing what you gotta do to feel alright, and I support that 100 percent.

11. The Song of Lust - "Sangria" (Blake Shelton)

Nothing screams sexuality more than the lyrics of this song. He mentions how they’re buzzing like the no vacancy sign, falling into kisses with each other, and how her skin is begging to be kissed by more than than the sun. You can tell this song is about those two people that met in a bar and just instant chemistry and can’t help but fall into one another, even if it is just for the night.

12. The Song of Seriousness/Maturity - "Live Like You Were Dying" (Tim McGraw)

The message in this song is absolutely beautiful. We all think that just because we wake up everyday we’re alive and living. Some of us are more adventurous than others, but I can only imagine that you’ll never feel more alive than when you get news about something that’s as serious as cancer. It’s a story about how this person started living the right way: taking risks, loving and actually took time for people, and did the thing most people who are living can’t do: forgive. Here’s to hoping that you don’t have to get such awful news to start living in such a way.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
