Summer is in full swing, which means it’s time to shed a little more than just a few layers of clothes. Without the protection of your winter sweater there’s a little more of you exposed, which means some of us may need to shed a few pounds. We want to put on that bikini that we love, but our love handles are not invited.
Unfortunately, this is not as easy as it looks. There’s a lot of blood, sweat, and tears along with that dream of a perfect summer bod. I feel that some of your favorite chick-flicks have a perfect handle of the emotional struggles that come from chasing that bikini ready, summer bod.
1. Realizing what’s under all those layers of clothes, isn’t really what it looks like.

That winter sweater has been so good too me, but I'm done pretending to be someone I'm not. It's time to come to terms with that muffin top.
2. Breaking up bacon.
No matter how much it awakens our soul in the morning (maybe lunch and dinner too), our love story with bacon has to end. Even though we so desperately want to reach for another strip of that crispy, fatty, goodness.
3. And carbs.
What will I do without bread? My desire for carbs is something I just can't help. "Sometimes I miss you so much I can hardly stand it."
4. Having no idea what you're doing in the gym.
Maybe your tricep dips look something like this.
5. Cheating on your diet.
Whether it's a Brokeback Mountain getaway with your gay lover, or eating that leftover Swiss Cake Roll you've been adorning over in your pantry for three days, the emotional tease is the same. "Yes Little Debbie Snack, we could just run away together. You and me. What do you say?"
6. When you lose five pounds and then gain six.
I was just kidding myself with that progress, wasn't I?
7. Keeping yourself motivated.
I've lost you once love handles. I know I can do it again.
8. When people ask what progress you've made.
The weight loss isn't something I'm seeing quite yet, but I can feel it's close.
9. When people say, "Keep working out, you'll get there!"
I'm tried of waiting for you, perfect summer body. If you're never going to come around, well, then maybe I'm done holding out for you.
10. But when you finally reach that goal.
There is no better feeling.
No matter how emotional getting fit can be, in the end it is truly worth it. So run that extra mile, and finish that extra rep because in the end you'll be glad you did. Even if you tear up a little giving the bread aisle a cold shoulder in the grocery store.
