We have all experienced the fandom emotional roller coaster. That new movie, new book, or new music comes out and you experience a series of emotions that can be diagrammed on a roller coaster, especially with super heroes.
Now, some hardcore fans will not enjoy that I plan to put Marvel and DC in the same diagram; HOWEVER, I will not be crossing universes. I will also not state my opinion on which universe is ultimately better than the other. So here it is. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to the public an Emotion Roller Coaster: Super Hero Movie Edition.
Step One: The Climb
You watch the previews and gain some knowledge and expectations for the movie you're about to see. Questions will arise. Will it be true to the comics? Can this actor pull off my favorite Super Hero? Then, the excitement comes. It builds and builds and builds until it is opening day at the theaters and you just HAVE to be at the midnight showing!
Step Two: The Top of the Hill
The main titles role and you're absolutely filled with excitement. As the story begins, you feel the maximum level of happiness run through you! This movie is going to be awesome! Team Cap all the way! I cannot wait to see explosions and fights! Then, DeadPool kicks butt within the first ten minutes and you're hooked.
Step Three: The Dissent
Then, your emotions get lost in the story and all hell breaks loose. Usually the first emotion is anger. A character will do something detrimental to the plot or just do something stupid. This usually happens with the damsels in distress like Lois and Mary Jane. You begin to scream at the screen. Happiness could be an alternate emotion. Yes! My favorite character is perfect and this actor is amazing and this actor is HOT! In this stage, the emotions have a vast range.
Step Four: The Climb Part 2
The big fight scene is coming up and you're ready for the action and the explosions! Whether it's Batman versus Superman or Iron Man versus Captain America or The Avengers versus their numerous enemies like Ultron or the government. All the tension begins to build and you think you're going to die waiting for it.
Step Five: The Top of the Hill Part 2
THE FIGHTING BEGINS! You pick a side. You shout and scream and tell them that they should throw a left hook, but instead they stomp the enemy to the ground. The super heroes usually know best.
Step Six: The Dissent Part 2
The fighting is over and everything seems to be coming to a peaceful close.
Step Seven:THE END?
The ride finally ends, but it does not end smoothly. The movie slaps you right in the face with a cliff hanger or a sad ending. Is Superman dead? Will Thor come back for Jane? What in the world will happen to Bucky?! In the end, you usually end up screaming profanities at the screen. Like, WHAT THE ACTUAL @(*$#?
So there you have it. For hard core fans, Super Hero movies put you through hell. You feel so many different emotions within two and a half hours that you feel like you're going crazy. And then you think, maybe that is your super power.
