In the age of rising artificial intelligence technology, thoughtful words have been replaced with abbreviated and emotions have been replaced with emoticons or emojis. The reason behind broken relationships and heated arguments in a relationship is a lack of emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is the capacity to reason about emotions and emotional information, and of feelings to enhance thought as described by the personality analyst, Dr. John Mayer. Everyone is going through some stress in their daily life, and subconsciously they end up releasing these stress on their loved ones.

Modern technology would indeed connect you with anyone and everyone in the world in a fraction of a second. BUT, it won't be able to connect you with yourself. Subconsciously, you may end up disconnecting yourself from you. Hence, it's crucial to develop Emotional Intelligence alongside any other intelligence. Having higher emotional intelligence can benefit you in many ways. You'll gain better job performance, more creative thoughts, the ability to accept sudden changes in your life, and of course, better relationships. Relationships are protected by a shield made out of emotional intelligence (EI), to defeat any and every attack.

1. You can understand and oversee your own emotions

It means you are less likely to make a rash decisions or get into an unnecessary argument than others with lower EI. If you're stressed about something that happened with you at work, school, or even between you and your partner, you would be able to find a better time to talk about it appropriately. In the beginning, it won't be easy for most of you, but you will get it. To be able to manage your own emotions at the right time will give you more time to understand your relationship and the feelings of your partner.

2. You can understand the connection between your action and your partner’s emotional reaction

If you are in a relationship for a long time, you might know how you or your partner would react to a particular action. However, unconsciously or not, sometimes people do take their loved ones for granted. After acting unexpectedly, you may think that your partner will understand or won't mind it since he/she knows you. Well, you're maybe wrong. Little drops of water make the mighty ocean. Hence, being able to understand your action's reaction in advance would make your future relationship a lot stronger. The trust between you and your partner may expand exponentially alongside love.

3. You can read your partner’s state of mind or emotions

If someone is smiling or crying, it's easy to tell how they are feeling. Often, people try to hide their true feelings because they love someone. In this type of situation, being able to read their mind can help you to untie their thought process. In fact, being able to understand your partner's feelings without him/her saying can increase their faith in you. The crucial part of every successful relationship is the understanding. Sometimes, you may figure out how your partner is feeling through the emojis from his/her text messages, but you may never realize that they were just used as a mask to hide emotions.

Building EI is a challenging task, but it's doable if you practice enough. As AI and smart devices are becoming more smarter and long-lasting, our relationships are becoming more shorter and unpredictable than ever in the human history. It's not something that we can ignore consciously or unconsciously. If we don't want to lose our identity being a human and don't let love last in only books, it's a time to take a step before it's too late. See you next week.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine.
