10 Emo Songs You Still Love

I can still confidently say these songs are still the jam.

Let’s all take a mental trip back to our middle school days. Some wore the plaid Bermuda shorts with Aeropostale polos. Others wore t-shirts tied up with hair ties. And others totally rocked the emo/punk phase. I personally was never allowed to dress emo/punk because my mother would have killed me, but I was always envious. Kids had the fingerless gloves, straight and choppy bangs, neon hair bows, band tees, skinny jeans, and colored Vans. I am still a strong believer in the fact that middle school was the time of the best music, and I still listen to a lot of it. There is no shame in that, my friends. Here are some songs from your middle school punk days that you still love:

1. "Dear Maria, Count Me In"- All Time Low

Let's set one fact straight: All Time Low has been, is, and will always be my favorite band. You can tell me they were only a middle school band, but they are so much more than that. If anyone knows them well enough, you know this song is bittersweet for The Hustlers (name of ATL fans). This song is our war call and national anthem but always used as the encore song for their live shows. We love it but hate it because it means it is over.

2. "Everything I Ask For"- The Maine

The Maine is actually one of my other favorite bands, and you can't deny how catchy this song is. To this day, if I see a Prada ad, I immediately yell, "PRADA IS WHAT SHE WEARS."

3. "Black Cat"- Mayday Parade

If you wanted to get in your feels and angst, Mayday Parade was your go-to in middle school. Between back-stabbing best friends and eighth grade boys playing with your young heart, Mayday Parade had you covered.

4. "Caraphernelia"- Pierce the Veil

If you were a fan of the lovely mexicore by Pierce the Veil, you knew this song. If you weren't, you knew this song. And loved it. To get even more emo, Jeremy McKinnon from A Day to Remember is featured in the song. So go listen to it and talk to your mom about "the little girl from Texas".

5. "I Write Sins Not Tragedies"- Panic! At the Disco

Cue the awkward, eyeliner-wearing Brendon Urie. Also cue screaming, "Closing the *pause* *pause* door!" because you were in seventh grade and your mom would have slapped you.

6. "Dance, Dance"- Fall Out Boy

I still freaking jam and turn this up to 11 when I play it in my car. If this song doesn't get you rowdy in some sort of way, you are doing it wrong.

7. "Check Yes, Juliet"- We the Kings

Ah, to only have a romance like this song. I used to listen to this song and imagine a boy and I running down the street to this song. The only problem is that Travis Clark is a UCF fan.

8. "Teenagers"- My Chemical Romance

I am pretty sure I didn't go to a middle school dance where this wasn't played. I am also pretty sure how the teachers allowed for this song to be played, but I was about it. This song still makes me want to throw bricks at car windows and rebel.

9. "Misery Business"- Paramore

Everyone likes Paramore. Everyone still likes Paramore. There's no fighting that.

10. "Face Down"- Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

To this day, I can still recall my dad not letting me go see them at a concert thirty minutes from me. I was heartbroken and swore I would never forgive him. I can confidently say I don't care anymore, and I am on good terms with my dad.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
