Why Being 'Weird' Is One Of The Best Things You Can Be

Have you ever had someone tell you that you’re weird? I know for sure that I have, and not just once; by almost every single person I know, and multiple times too. I’ve been called weird for as long as I can remember; whether it was in a joking lovable way, or a dead serious way, I was always called weird. For the longest time I used to hate being told that I’m weird. It made me feel unlikable, embarrassed, and well, weird. I know that everyone can relate, everyone has been told that they’re weird, whether they want to admit it or not. However, somewhere along the way, I started embracing the weird and loving every part of it, and here is why.

I’ve started embracing the weird part of myself, which is basically my entire self, because it’s a part of me, it’s who I am, and there is no one else on this entire planet exactly like me. Not one person out of the seven billion people on this planet is exactly the same as me, and that alone blows my mind. It is crazy to me to think that there are seven billion people that live on this planet and not one person has the same soul; I think that is pretty darn cool.

The Lord made all of us who we are, he crafted us right down to perfection in his very own hands. So sure, you might have some quirky things about you, the way you snort when you laugh, your sense of humor, the way you interact with people. But every single thing about you is perfect the way it is. Yes, it might be weird to other people, but that’s only because they’re different from you. None of that even matters, because you were perfectly and beautifully made in the hands of the one who made the entire earth.

As for me, I love being called weird now. I take pride when someone says “Emma, you’re so weird.” I take pride in this, because it means I’m being myself. It means that I have ignored any social norms and naturally decided to be the person God created me to be. It means I’m living my own life, in my own skin, and no one else is living life exactly as I am.

So here is to my seventh grade self, thank you for continuing to be yourself despite what everyone else thought, and thank you for never, ever doubting who you were just because someone called you weird. As for everyone else, I challenge you to embrace your weird, live out your life being you and don’t let anyone else stop you. You’re perfect the way you are. Fall in love with your little quirks, fall in love with the way you live your life, and fall in love with who you are. Let someone else know you like their weird, let them know it inspires you, because you never know, it could be one of the best compliments they’ve ever gotten.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
