It's taken me 20 years to realize that I do not understand normal people. I don't get how some people can not have quirks and things they do that make them the person that they are. I do not mean this in a negative way, and I'm not telling people that they have to be weird, but I'm pretty sure every person has a little weird in them.
I physically don't know how to interact with people who are content with having the same menial conversations all the time. Being weird in this sense is that when you're around your group of friends, you don't feel the need to be poised and polite all the time, and you're comfortable showing your quirks to them.
In all the time I've watched television, there's always been a character or more that is the weird/funny person of the show. Here's how some characters have taught people to embrace the weird without even trying.
1. "Parks and Rec": Ben
It took him a while, but Ben eventually showed all of his weird quirks on the show. He was a stern business guy, but Leslie was able to bring out his true personality. We all have people in our lives that we are able to freely be weird around without feeling judged.
2. "Friends": Phoebe
Phoebe from "Friends" was always saying things that she did not know were weird. She was weird without even knowing it. Those are some of the best kinds of people because they're just being themselves and don't see anything weird about staying true to who they are.
3. Every single character from "The Office"
Every character is weird in their own way, and there isn't a single normal character on the show. They all had the times where they showed their real human emotions and were honestly real with one another. It's great to be weird but also to know when it's time to take things seriously.
4. "Kim Possible": Kim and Ron
The weirdness bonded Kim and Ron's friendship for life. Sometimes we find that one person who embraces and celebrates our weirdness. This could be a soulmate, a lifelong friend, or a sibling. We know this person will be in our lives forever because they just get us.
5. "New Girl": Nick and Jess
Quirky and weird make Nick and Jess the characters that they are. They are the best kind of weird because they are unapologetic about it and accept who they are even if other people don't want to acknowledge it. This is a type of weirdness that we can all learn from.
6. "Perks of Being a Wallflower": Sam and Charlie
Sam became Charlie's friend even when she knew he was a little weird from the start. We all meet people who we're comfortable being our weird selves with from the start, and it's important to find the ones who will accept it rather than try to change or judge the person that you are.
Maybe it's just that weird attracts weird, and that is all I've been around. It is normal for people that have their own unique quirks to be friends with people that have their own too. I'm all about individuality and not trying to be like every single person you know. It's OK to take an interest in what your friends like because then you're just experiencing their quirks and learning about that makes them the person that they are. So many shows and major influencers in the world are all about embracing yourself, and if you're weird, then embrace that, too, because we're all a little weird.
