In case you haven't heard, last week celebrated the 15th anniversary of the popular movie, "Legally Blonde." It was released July 13, 2001 and was so successful that it had a sequel and inspired a musical to be written based on the story. To celebrate the anniversary, star Reese Witherspoon reenacted scenes from the movie on her Snapchat and even wore some of the original costumes!
"Legally Blonde" may be a comedy, but I've always found the main character, Elle Woods, to be inspiring. Here are five reasons why I think she's a great role model.
1. She is ambitious.
Elle originally went to Harvard to win her ex-boyfriend Warner back, but she put the work in to get there. She got a great score on the LSAT and made a fun video essay that ultimately caught the attention of admissions and got her into law school. Even though her advisor and friends didn't expect her to be accepted, Elle's personality and hard work helped her achieve her goal.
2. She is a great friend.
Elle met many people along the way and was always kind to them. She was willing to help in her own way, and usually her advice paid off!
3. She has her own sense of style.
Who else could pull off so much pink in one outfit?
4. She is forgiving.
Most of the people Elle met at Harvard mocked her, but Warner and his fiance Vivian were especially cruel. Elle and Vivian argued for most of the movie, but by the end, Elle forgave her and the two became close friends. They could have continued competing over Warner, but ultimately realized he was not worth the trouble.
5. She persevered.
Although Elle was harshly judged due to her appearance and personality, she realized that staying true to herself was the best way to be. After all, being herself is what got her into Harvard in the first place.
