Stranger Things is the new original Netflix that series that everyone, or at least the Internet, is raving about. The 8-episode long first season has us hooked, and here are eleven reasons why!
1. It's reminiscent of those best friend adventure movies we know and love.
Think The Goonies, Stand By Me, and the old Hardy Boys stories. It has similar elements of friendship and adventure, with the added twist of creepy villains, a mysterious monster, and the ever eerie world of the "Upside Down."
2. The Monster is the perfect level of creepy and mysterious.
Yes, Dustin, it is mental. I can't tell you the number of times I yelled, "His whole face is a mouth!"
3. The cast is full of super talented newcomers, including the adorable kids.
4. ...and some veterans, i.e. WINONA RYDER.
Watch her play the dedicated, slightly insane mother, Joy, who loses her son, Will. Can you blame her for being a little crazy, though? Props to her for taking every shot she comes across.
5. Eleven is hardcore, pure and simple...
She's got crazy cool mental powers, and she's sincere and dedicated to her new friends. What more could you want in a character?
6. ...as is the actress that plays her, Millie Bobby Brown.
She's a twelve year old girl who can rap, come on.
7. Mike and Eleven's adorable friendship
"Friends don't lie."
8. The sense we want to slap into Nancy
Come on, girl, please tell me what you see in Steve. But you do have a really cute wardrobe, so you get points for that.
9. The hilarious theory that Steve is actually the father of Jean Ralphio (Parks and Recreation)
I mean, the do both have perfectly coiffed hair.
10. Wonderful script writing...
Why?!
11. ...paired with an equally wonderful soundtrack
I may or may not be listening to it right now. "Should I stay or should I go?"
Not to mention, you'll never eat a waffle or hang up Christmas lights the same way every again. If you haven't checked it out yet, I strongly encourage you to. I'm not usually a big fan of sci-fi, but this got me hooked. It's suspenseful, creepy, and charming, all at the same time. Props to you, Duffer Brothers.
