Don't you hate it when you need to procrastinate all of your papers and studying but you can't find anything good to watch? And googling movies and shows usually doesn't come up with any worthy results. So I'm here with a handy dandy list that is sure to give you hours of delaying productivity.
American Beauty (Sam Mendes, 1999)
Not going to lie, this is a pretty weird film. But if you're a Kevin Spacey fan like me, you're sure to enjoy it. The basic plot line follows a man that is tired of his boring everyday life and needs a change in his routine. If that's not enough to keep you interested, the odd quirks to the movie will keep you watching to find out how it's going to end.
Frances Ha (Noah Baumbach, 2013)
If you're a sucker for modern black-and-white films, this one is for you. And it may be somewhat relatable for the college student going through a lot of change at once.
The Virgin Suicides (Sofia Coppola, 2000)
Much like "American Beauty," this is a movie romanticizing taboo subjects, but it really makes you think about life. Oh, and Kirsten Dunst acts in it. Need I say more?
We Need To Talk About Kevin (Lynne Ramsay, 2011)
An absolute must-see, in my opinion. We see the life of a woman that gave birth to a cynical boy that ends up screwing up her life by releasing his inner sociopath. It gives a totally different perspective than what we're used to seeing. Also, Ezra Miller is kind of hot.
6 Years (Hannah Fidell, 2015)
I don't recommend this movie for anyone in a relationship right now, because it might make you a bit paranoid. This film shows the complete breakdown of a teenage relationship and goes from romanticizing the seemingly perfect "Tumblr" couple to showing what actually goes on behind the scenes.
The Skeleton Twins (Craig Johnson, 2014)
The plot is basically the drawn-out lecture your parents always gave you about being nice to your siblings, but details give this movie the twist it needs to stay interesting. Both characters have problems they need to work through that a cheesy "Full House" hug-it-out sesh can't fix.
Welcome to Me (Shira Pevin, 2014)
This movie also plays off of having life issues when you're in your 30s. The main character wins the lottery and decides to host her own T.V. show, The American Dream.
Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List (Kristin Hanggi, 2015)
These two best friends have a weird friendship that can be confused with a relationship. They both fall for the same guy, which appears to be the problem, but in my opinion, the problem might actually be that Victoria Justice's character realizes that she can never be with her best friend. Either way, it's a feel-good movie overall.
Adore (Anne Fontaine, 2013)
Two pairs of best friends, two moms, two sons, and two freaky relationships, all within these four people you see in the photograph. It leaves you with one question at the end of it: Would you be OK with it?
Creep (Patrick Kack-Brice, 2014)
Two good elements to this movie: found footage and the use of Craigslist in a scary way. If you're a regular on Netflix, you might have seen this movie trending at one point.
Kristy (Olly Blackburn, 2014)
As if you needed another reason to be afraid of the weird noises in your dorm when your roommate is away for the weekend.
Happy watching!
