This past week the nation watched the results of Super Tuesday. It’s a day in politics everyone has heard of, but do you really know what it is? Here’s a Super Tuesday break down.
Super Tuesday is a Tuesday during an election season where the most states and usually a region hold their state primaries. This year Super Tuesday was held on March 1. This year Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia and Wyoming held their state primaries.
So what happened this year? A lot. The big winners? Trump and Clinton, no surprise. Trump won seven out of the 11 states, including Alabama and Vermont. Creating a vast contrast in Vermont’s presidential picks, Trump and Bernie. Another surprise of the night? New Jersey Governor Chris Christie endorsed Trump, which was followed by several great memes.
As for the Democrats? Hillary was a clear winner by swooping up seven of the 11 states, like Trump. While Sanders picked up his home state of Vermont along with three more, Hillary held strong, winning big states like Alabama, Arkansas and Virginia.
March 5 was another big night; Republican primaries were held for Louisiana, Maine, Kentucky and Kansas. Trump and Cruz technically tied, each winning two, but the title goes to Cruz with 69 delegate votes. As for the Democrats, Louisiana, Kansas and Nebraska held primaries. Bernie took home two wins with Kansas and Nebraska, but the title goes to Clinton for winning the majority in delegate votes.
So what’s next? The rest of March will hold big primaries like Maine, Florida and North Carolina. Then Idaho and Michigan will hold their Republican primaries later in the month. In the near future we will see the candidate pool slim down even further and more rumors will continue about running mates. So stay posted and informed! All what matters is that you go out and vote.
And in case you are worried about Trump getting the nomination, there’s an island in Canada Americans can flee to. Cape Breton Island, which is located off of the northern tip of Canada by Nova Scotia, is advertising itself as a place where women can get abortions, Muslim can roam freely and there will be no walls.
