What does it even mean to have an old soul? It could mean one's taste in music, in clothing or even in people. Basically, having an old soul is when you're a 60-year-old trapped in a young adult body. You just don't understand what those young whippersnappers are doing these days. The year 2015 seems so confusing, and you constantly wish you were back in the '70s. Even though you weren't actually alive then, but you're pretty sure life was a hell of a lot better.
Here are eight everyday struggles someone with an old soul faces in today's world.
1. New music confuses you.
You can barely have conversations with other people your age about music. Plus, there's the constant arguments about what radio station to play in the car. Wait, who is that? His name is Wacka Flocka ... what? What is dubstep? I don't get this music. Can I just play some Zeppelin instead?
2. When you mention your favorite music, other people's responses make you want to cry.
Old Soul: "Oh, I love this song!"
New Soul: "Who's it by???"
Old Sout: "The Beatles, of course."
New Soul: "Who are the Beatles??"
Me: ...
3. You don't understand all this newfangled technology.
So, you're telling me, that there is now a smart ... watch? Now you have a laptop, a cell phone, a tablet and a watch. There's no need for all of this technology. I barely know how to DVR "Grey's Anatomy" on my TV.
4. Even the language of today doesn't make any sense.
Forget the music or technology, we can't even have conversations with new souls. They use all these new terms that sounds completely ridiculous to us old souls. Words like "ratchet" and "fleek." ... I'm sorry, but I think you are speaking another language.
5. Overalls are a staple of your wardrobe.
Also legwarmers, oversize sweaters and flare jeans. People stare, but we don't care. We love our decades-old style.
6. Picking movies is just as hard as picking music.
Let's watch "Pretty in Pink" or "The Breakfast Club"! Even the horror movies from the '70s are way better than the "Paranormal Activity" series. Why did they even try to remake "Poltergeist"?
7. It's hard finding friends.
The first thing friends connect on is similar interests. There's a scarcity of us old souls in college, and it's hard for us to find one another. Where are you?! We need you!
There are a lot of struggles of being an old soul, but in the end...
8. It's all worth it.
We know that we are different and unique, and we love being old souls. We will never change for the times.
