Bernie Sanders is many things. A hero, an underdog, a politician. Recently, he's been on the rise in polls, gaining popularity for his pragmatic views, his honesty, and his consistency. But perhaps one of the lesser known reasons we like him so much is because of his many similarities to the people we are closest with in our lives: grandfathers. Here are eight (pretty convincing) signs that Bernie and Grandpa are exactly alike.
1. Bernie never brushes his hair.
Like your grandpa, Bernie is much too busy trying to save the world. He doesn't have time to brush his hair, giving him a natural tousled look on the go.
2. Speaking of time, Bernie never wants to miss any events.
Being a potential democratic nominee is a full time job, as is being someone's grandpa. Grandpa is there for all your recitals, games, and birthdays, just like Bernie is at every rally and debate. Both believe time is of the essence.
3. Both Grandpa and Bernie are extremely thrifty.
Just like Grandpa would hesitate to get you that extra toy at Toys R' Us, Bernie runs a smart campaign. While other candidates stay at the Four Seasons, Bernie uses AirBnB, the smarter, cheaper option.
4. He can fall asleep anytime, anywhere, no matter the situation.
Running a campaign can really get the best of Bernie, just like cleaning up after all of your messes can get the best of Grandpa. They really do care about what you have to say, but sometimes it's a little hard for them to resist some Zzzs.
5. He loves to lecture you on the importance of education.
As much as Grandpa is willing to spend his own money on your college tuition, Bernie is willing to spend the government's money on your tuition as well. They both believe that education is a basic human right and that everyone should be properly educated to succeed.
6. He is often left out of conversations because of his slight deafness.
Although Bernie and Grandpa often have the most insightful and hilarious comments, their hard-of-hearing can sometimes get in the way of that. However, when they need to make a point - they will make sure to be heard.
7. He could care less about what anyone else thinks.
Bernie and Grandpa have both lived amazing lives, witnessing some of the most incredible world events. But now, at this age, they do what they want to do, even if they happen to be at the State of the Union.
8. All in all, he's the best advice giver.
Bernie believes that no matter who you are, you matter. For Grandpa, love is something that is unconditional. In the end, Grandpa will always be there for you. Bernie too.
