With graduation in a couple weeks, the reality of ending a four-year adventure is starting to set in. It’s an awkward bittersweet feeling, as we prepare for the real world and say goodbye to the amazing educational and social experience that has consumed four years of our lives.
Is anyone truly prepared for this? No.1) It’s time to live it up.
With the weather getting warmer and coursework becoming more manageable, so many people just want to go out and make the most of their final days as a college student. As a graduating senior it’s natural to just want a break from the reality of adulting, so understandably we make our way to the bar. Because after graduation, when will we ever encounter the freedom of just walking to a cheap college bar with good friends? That level of convenience truly only exists in college.
2) Well maybe going out on a Tuesday wasn’t the greatest idea.
Too tired to fully handle responsibilities and literally rolling out of bed for class.… but it was worth it. I can survive this day with coffee.
3) When will the "life plan" questions finally come to an end?
Approximately 40 times a day, I’m answering this question and increasingly becoming confused with every response I give. Graduating college is realizing that post-graduate planning is more difficult than ever suspected.
4) Okay, so what’s really next?
Can’t avoid reality forever. What felt like a distant future is quickly approaching, and procrastinating can’t be the solution to everything. Time to buckle down and apply for graduate programs and jobs… but Netflix.
5) How do I even function without my squad?
First, realizing that for the past four years I’ve been spoiled to have my close friends living within walking distance, and that after graduation we have to make real concrete plans to see each other (out of state probably). Next, realizing that I will no longer have a gym partner after May 7th. Last, realizing that we should move in together and struggle in this adult world as a team.
6) I’m somewhere in between feeling as if I’ve outgrown my undergrad, yet not wanting it to end.. ever
This feels very similar to a breakup now.
7) I literally remember freshman year like it was yesterday
These four years have gone by way too fast. Am I really 22, or is this just a long dream? There's so much advice I'd give to my freshmen year self.
8) I’m beyond scared straight, but it will all magically work out
Thank you career center for preparing me for the next 200 job interviews I’ll be on.
