I became the EIC (Editor-in-Chief) for the WPI Odyssey team at the end of April. In all honesty, I had no idea what to do and I was nervous I'd somehow fail the team within the first week. Yet here me and my team are, months later, and we're stronger than we ever have been. As I look forward to the start of the academic year, I look and see how much we've grew and I have loved every minute of it. Check out some of the reasons why I wouldn't give up being an EIC for anything in the world.
1. I have gotten to become friends with some of the most amazing people.
Having a group of people who are creating alongside you while also supporting you every step of the way is pretty great. I would have never gotten to know these people if I wasn't the EIC.
2. I got to help build a community on campus who support one another.
We totally are like Glee! We read each other's articles, give pointers and overall just have a great time!
3. I get to take a sneak peak at everyone's articles before they are published.
Well, it is because I have to edit them, but I consider it a sneak peak! Getting to read everyone's articles each week makes me so happy and proud about what they are accomplishing and doing in their own lives!
4. I love being able to create meeting plans.
I mean, I was only able to have one meeting right at the end of the year but get ready people! I have ideas! And loads of them!
5. I get to have weekly meetings over video chat like a professional person!
With Jess, who I refer to my team as our boss lady and she is amazing, perfect and everything in between! Mostly we just chit chat but I promise we're very professional!
6. I have become the overall cheerleader for our team.
If I'm excited, the team will get excited! I do this by loads of exclamation points!!!!! Who doesn't get excited by that sentence?!
7. I get to chit chat with EICs from other universities/colleges!
Our Slack is bumping all day everyday. I am so lucky to have a chance to talk through problems with them but also get to know each other! We completely understand all the struggles are real.
8. I get to, as friendly as possible, ask where articles are.
I'm never that aggressive, just a friendly reminder! That reminds me, I need to remind some people soon! While I don't like having to do it, I get to talk to my writers even more!
9. I became the all knowing person of the team, almost like a mother!
Yeah, most of the time I don't know how to answer anything you may throw at me, but I do the best I can to figure it out!
10. I get so happy being able to help my team be creative!
Whether they have the most shared article of the week or they just wrote an article that they were super excited for, it just makes me so happy to be able to help them along the way!
