Easy Tips For Staying In Shape This Summer

Let’s all face it, summer for college students are the three months where we dedicate our lives to getting back into fantastic shape before the upcoming school year. Of course it seems very easy when we say back in April that we will really get into shape this summer, but more often than not we are struggling to actually fulfill this goal. I made it my personal mission this summer to focus on exercising and eating incredibly healthy all summer long so that I can continue to follow my routine once school starts in August. Because I’m dedicated to his new healthy lifestyle, I always have found super easy ways that I can stay healthy in the college lifestyle. Trust me, I know that no one has time to plan out every single meal for the week, take the time to cook each one of them, and plan out hours to spend at the gym. These types of things are not in my daily routine at all and I have somehow managed to stay on track. So, here are a few simple ways that I am able to get fit, and healthy this summer.

Eat quinoa.

Eat quinoa almost everyday if you can. Quinoa has so many healthy qualities that your body needs. This food offers benefits such as: high protein, iron, fiber, and daily vitamins. Not to mention it is also gluten-free! Quinoa is such an easy dish to make and so versatile that you can almost mix it in with any dish. Tip: search for easy quinoa recipes on the internet and you’ll instantly find hundreds of dishes you’ll soon fall in love with.

Drink water constantly throughout the day. You know when you’re on the internet googling famous diets celebrities do, or easy full-proof diets? Well, you will probably notice that every one of these diets will list on there to drink plenty of water. This is obviously a given rule, but many people actually fail to do so. Besides the fact that water is something your body has to have to survive and fills you up, but most people end up drinking away their daily dose of calories throughout the day. So, skip the cokes, the sweet tea, and try to only drink water with lemon. I promise, your body will thank you.

Take a walk. This sounds easy right? I personally am not a big runner because of the damage it can have on your joints, but, I do love a long 3 mile walk or hike. Not only are you getting the same cardio benefits you would be running (unless you’re a marathon runner), but it is so easy to fit into your busy schedule. When you get off work/internship, come home, cook dinner, then go on a walk with your roommate and catch up to talk about the day. When taking walks with slopes and hills walking a few miles, you can easily burn a couple hundred calories which could make up for that Starbucks caramel Frappuccino you had this morning.

Don’t overbuy at the grocery store. The grocery store can be so overwhelming and extremely hard to tackle when trying to maintain a healthy diet. An initial reaction is to buy the most appealing snack on the shelf and then end up crushing your calorie goal. Don’t kick yourself about it later and follow this simple tip: write down an exact list of what you are going to buy. By doing this, you are going into the store on a mission to only get what you need so that you don’t find yourself wondering into the cookie aisle. Just stick to the list, and you’ll conquer this task!

Making healthy choices can be extremely easy to do as long as you have the determination to stick to it. Just like anything else in life, if you put your mind to it, you can achieve it! There are honestly so many ways to stay fit that work for different people. This is just a list that I have personally found easiest to stick to. So, find a plan that works best for you and go for it!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
