Every college student who has ever lived on campus knows the struggle of not having a kitchen and wanting something more to eat than just dining hall food. So here is a list of 13 meals you can make without taking away from valuable study time, but the best part is, you can make them all in the microwave! Make sure you are using microwave-safe plates when making these dishes.
Mug Mac and Cheese
You will need a microwave-safe mug, fill about 1/2 of a noodle of your choice, 1/2 a cup of cheese. You will place the noodles in the mug with some water, microwave for about 8 minutes pausing it at about the 2 and 5-minute mark to stir, then add in cheese and the warm noodles should melt the cheese.
Nachos
Get some of your favorite tortilla chips, sprinkle on cheese, beans, or whatever else you'd like on it warm, and cook for 1-11 minutes depending on the strength of the microwave, or until the cheese is melted.
Potato Chips
Cut up a potato into thin rounds, like a chip, season then how you would like and microwave them for about four minutes.
Corn On The Cob
Take an ear of corn, cut off the stock end, place the corn in the microwave (no plate or paper towel needed), and microwave for four minutes. Let it cool down for a few minutes but then it is ready to eat!
Brown Rice
You will need to pour 1/2 cup of instant brown rice with 2/3 cup of water into a mug. Cover the mug with a saucer and microwave until almost all of the water is gone.
Omelet In A Mug
You will need to crack 2 eggs into a mug and stir in salt and pepper and then microwave for 2-3 minutes rotating the mug every 30 seconds or so.
Upgraded Ramen Bowl
You'll need one pack of ramen noodles, some spinach, mushrooms, green onions and, garlic paste (1 tsp). Cook the ramen like you usually would and add in the other ingredients to your taste.
Mug French Toast
You will need 1 tsp of butter, 3 tbsp of whole milk, 1/4 tsp of cinnamon, 1/4 tsp of vanilla extract, a pinch of ground nutmeg, 1 large egg, and 1 cup of bread pieces. Microwave the butter for about 15-20 seconds, until It is melted, then add all the other ingredient besides the bread and mix it together. Once you have mixed It all together add in the bread let it soak for about a minute then microwave for about 60-90 seconds.
Chocolate Chip Cookies
You will need 1tbsp of butter, 1 tbsp of granulated sugar, 1 tbsp of brown sugar, 1/8 tsp of vanilla, 1 large egg yolk (do not use egg whites), 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/8 tsp of salt, 2 tbsp of chocolate chips. You will first mix the butter, sugars, vanilla, and egg yolks in a microwavable safe cup, then add in the flour, salt, and chocolate chips. Mix all the ingredients together and flatten out the top evenly. Cook in the microwave for 40 to 60 seconds and then enjoy!
Baked Potato
Grab any potato, wash it, poke holes all over the potato with a fork or knife, then microwave for 8 minutes or until it is soft!
Steamed Brocoli
Get some broccoli, fresh or frozen, make sure to cut and wash it. Place it into a microwave safe bowl with a lid or cover it in Saran Wrap, and microwave for 3 minutes.
Pita Pizza
You'll need Pita bread, cheese, and whatever other toppings you would like, sauce is optional. Microwave for 1-2 minutes or until the cheese melts.
Enchiladas
You'll need some already cooked freezer chicken, some enchilada sauce, cheese, and tortillas. Go about making enchiladas like you usually would but then stick it in the microwave for 5 to 7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted!
Sure it takes time to cook some good food but it is completely worth it in the end. Especially if you are not in love with the idea of dining halls!
