The Easter holiday, bringing us happiness and thanks, is upon us once again. The time around Easter for those of the Christian faith is a time of reflecting on what you have received and how you have been forgiven. Easter is one of my favorite holidays because of these five reasons.
1. The Easter holiday brings you together with family.
Easter comes with time off of work and school which allows families and friends to be able to celebrate this holiday. Family near and far come together for this tradition once a year to share meals, exchange stories, and participate in the many events that come with Easter. It is a time of reflecting on how fortunate you are to have your family and to be able to enjoy their presence.
2. It lets us know that spring is well on its way.
When you walk outside, you feel the sunshine warming your skin, you hear the birds chirping and the bees buzzing, and you can smell the sweet scents of flowers blooming all around. When you walk outside, you can't help but have a smile on your face because of the beautiful weather. Easter is the holiday that tells us to break out the pastels. It is now socially acceptable for men to wear their pastel pants and for the ladies to bring their Lilly print dresses to the front of their closet. It is a time where yellows, purples, and pinks are prominent and it seems as if the whole world is brightening up, finally escaping the cool colors of winter.
3. Allows you to reminisce on your childhood.
Your childhood is a place that your mind often wanders back to, reminiscing on the past events that made you who you are today. Often, we tend to look back on the fun adventures and traditions that we enjoyed. Easter comes with the remembrance of dying eggs with family, going to visit the Easter bunny, and participating in the Easter egg hunt at church, praying that you would find the golden egg which would result in a bigger prize than candy. You remember how you ate until your stomach couldn't fit one more ounce of chocolate and how you rested up until it was time to play with family and friends again.
4. Gives you joy.
I can't help but smile when the weather warms up and when Easter is upon us. This is a time of joy that no one can escape. It is now warm enough to hear the children playing on the playground, shrieking for joy because of the beautiful sunshine. You listen to the sweet melodies of a light rain patting your roof as you drift off into sleep. You wake up fumbling in the dark because of the time change, only to stop and smile because you remember that you get an extra hour of daylight in the evening for enjoying the beautiful spring, and summer which will be here before we know it.
5. A reminder that Jesus died for us.
Last but certainly not least, Easter is a reminder that Christ died on the cross and rose three days later to forgive our sins. We are reminded by attending beautiful sunrise services on the hill next to our church. We all come together to worship and thank our Lord for giving us the best gift that we can ever receive, eternal life and forgiveness for as long as we live. Though the grass withers and the flowers fade, Easter reminds us that the Word of our God will stand forever, and that we are saved.
