Imagine waking up in the middle of the night and having such a great thought. This thought could be as random as apple pie or as important as the next answer to the next character in your novel. Maybe this idea you're having is just to jot down some important life stuff going on at the moment. But the point is, this idea is important to you.
All the writers out there, you know what I'm talking about. We all have "the time" that we write the best. It could late night, early morning, or in my case, it's the random wake-ups. Yes, these random wake-ups are great for me. But, that wasn't always the case.
As a writer, I've always had the drive to write. I think that there's a huge difference between drive and just wanting to be able to write. The drive to do something is far greater than wanting to do something. Throughout the years it's been different things from stuff happening in school, family life and interpersonal challenges I have had. The best times for me to write have usually been the later parts of the day, somewhere between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
As a kid, I would stay up and write poetry and short stories on pieces of legal pad paper. I actually have a storage box full of it. The best part of that was really just being able to express myself and how I felt at the time. I have too many pieces of paper accumulated throughout the years of writing randomly.
There have been many times when I have imagined people coming to me saying something along the lines of "Why is there so many journals everywhere?" But nothing of the sort has ever happened. Usually, everyone from new friends to old friends to best friends has only supported me in my writing.
So, the best times to write are when you have a random thought come up and you say "Oh Damn! This is good!" The best times to succeed at the time of writing is to not ignore the desire for greatness. The times when you have the most important value to yourself is when you know you can and will achieve greatness. Don't doubt your own potential.
