10 Dumb Things I've Heard Working In The Food Industry

I've heard it all.

I don't know why people do this and not understand why they suddenly become a joke within the food industry, but hey, it's fine! It's fine!

1. The Customer is Always Right

Not true. If the customer is bashing you because your service was the "absolute worst they've ever received," chances are they're just be rude. If the customer can't follow simple rules or understand your restrictions as a waitress, fast food worker, etc, then that's on them, not you. The customer doesn't know more about the business you work for. Therefore, the customer is not always right.

2. Make the Ice Less Cold

I didn't even know how to respond to this. I was actually asked to make ice less cold simply because the person's teeth were very sensitive. Apparently the answer to this problem is to add little ice to any given drink, and looking back I'm more than certain they just accidentally combined two separate questions, but at the time--it was not the single smartest thing I've ever heard.

3. Why is the Menu Set Up Like This?

I don't know--I don't know why a menu that has been around longer than both of us have is set up the way it is and I have no intention of calling corporate to ask. Yes, I've been yelled at for the menu being confusing because of the way it was set up, but I can't fix that. If you can still find what you're looking for, then you're good. If you have any questions, just ask! I will help you if you respectfully ask!

4. "Well, this other place had it!"

Then go there! That is literally all I have to say to that! Go to the place where you know your favorite meal will be on the menu! Don't yell at me for not providing you with excellent customer service! If you're from out of state and you ask me if your store is different from mine, whatever, cool! If the distance between your favorite store and mine is two miles and you yell at me about not having something, just go to the other store!

5. *Doors Locked and Clearly Cleaning* "You Open?"

*slowly shakes head*

6. *Plate Completely Clean* "Worst meal I've ever had!"

I'll bet it was. In fact, it was so bad that you had to eat every single available bite just to make sure it was all bad! For your sacrifice, you get a free meal! But wait, you hate the food, why would you want a free meal? Because you were being difficult on purpose? What a horrible and immature thing to do!

7. "Well, they did it last time!"

Whoever did it last time probably did so to make you go away or because the discount you got last time was actually available last time.

8. Can I Speak With Your Manager?

Depending on the situation, this is okay. However, if you're being difficult and you get mad at me for everything and then ask to speak with a manager about how horrible I've been, then I will be annoyed with you and anyone else sitting at your table!

9. I'm Never Coming Back Here Again!

K, bye!

10. I'm Going to Sue You!

Okay, see you in court or never again, as per the usual outcome.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
