Drunk On the Spirit (Part 1)
HOWL Magazine

As promised, here is the completed Drunk on the Spirit. Sorry this took so long, but maybe this will make it worth it.

Fill yourself up with the Spirit, be free of the spirits

I don’t care if its fine, please put down the bottle of wine

If you truly have someone dear, take your face out of that beer

You look really pale, or is that just your 5th ale?

You come up to me and you say “I’m dandy”, I really know that’s just the brandy

I see everyone everywhere drowning in sin, that’s not their fault, that’s probably the gin

If you’re full of yourself and think yourself a thumb breaker, you’ve probably had too many shots of Jaeger.

This goes out to everyone, who’s making themselves sick

Whether you’ve had only one drink, or you’re a complete alcoholic

I understand the alcohol changes you, makes you sail

Let’s see if you’re still saying that when you’re rotting in jail

It makes you do the unexpected, lets you live life more easily

Well buddy, I have two words for you: public indecency.

You say I don’t know what I’m talking about, you think I just can’t

Let me offer some numbers to back up my rant.

First number to remember: 199.

That’s how many billions of dollars are spent on each year

I swear I’m not joking, this isn’t being played by ear

That’s not enough? You want more to hear?

Listen to this next line, see if you’re still not reeling with fear

Next number: 50.

That’s the percentage of driving fatalities that are involving alcohol.

That number gets you thinking, makes you feeling

The gears in your head should be turning, you should be positively reeling.

One last number to prove my point today,

This is the last thing I’m going to say

The last number: 6

That's how many people are killed by alcohol every day

You hear that saying "there's absolutely no way!"

Addiction is an ongoing battle, it's an endless fray

Unfortunately at the moment, it's a problem that's here to stay.

This poem isn't meant to solely be an IQ flaunt

Let me tell you about the type of drunkenness you do want.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
