Have you ever found yourself wishing there was a television show where liquored-up comedians recount some of the most important events in United States history? Your wish has been granted. “Drunk History” is a Comedy Central program where such things happen, and these stories are even accompanied by a re-enactment, featuring an assortment of guest stars that you may recognize. These have included Jack Black, Will Ferrell, Ryan Gosling, Zooey Deschanel, Keegan Michael Key and Jordan Peele (of “Key & Peele” fame), and Charlie Day (of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”). It’s difficult to put in words just how hilarious this combination of intoxication and sobriety can be, so here are a couple clips to show you what I mean:
The show itself is the brainchild of comedian Derek Waters,
who I’m almost certain you’ve never heard of before. Nevertheless, the show is
brilliant and is never at a shortage for material. Most of the stories that are
covered are ones that may have been overlooked by your history textbooks, so
you will also learn some things you didn’t know before. In general, each
episode will focus on the history of one particular city, so yours might be
featured! As of right now, the show isn’t available on Netflix, but you can
find it on Hulu Plus if you have an account (a free trial is available). If you
know your cable provider information, you can watch full episodes on the Comedy
Central website. Or, if you’re more old-fashioned, you can watch it on Tuesdays
at 10:30 p.m. EST on Comedy Central. It is currently in its third season, so try
not to binge too hard.
