Dreams Only Work If You Do

We have all heard this before, but it couldn't be more true.

We all have desires, goals, and dreams that we would like to fulfill during our lifetime. These could be something as small as getting a good grade in one of your classes or something as large as starting your own business. No matter how big or small your dreams may seem, they all require you, the person striving for them, to put in some sort of effort.

Like I said, everyone has dreams but the average person is often too afraid to really dream big. We are told from the time we are young children that we can be whatever we want to be and that we can do anything we put our mind to but it seems that as we get older, we lose that hopeful spirit. We start to doubt ourselves and tell ourselves the things we can and can not do. Over time, we forget what we were told when we were young. We do not believe we are capable of anything and everything.

In reality, this is untrue. We never really lose the ability to achieve the things we want to; we just lose the motivation to do so. We realize that to accomplish big things we need to put in lots of work. Everyone has heard the quote “dreams only work if you do” as said by John C. Maxwell which is most definitely true. We will never accomplish what we desire unless we take responsibly and push toward our goals, no matter how far away they may be.

The final facet of achieving your goals is not letting the opinions of others stop you from perusing your dreams. Receiving helpful opinions or corrective criticism is always appreciated but when others attempt to knock you down and convince you that you are on the wrong path, try your best to keep going. You will prove these people wrong one day. Continue to focus on you and what you need to do to make yourself proud.

These words are things that I think everyone and every stage of life needs to hear, and young adults even more so. It is so important to live your life the way that you want to and to reach for the stars in every way.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register.
