Toronto natives, avid Drake listeners and basically everyone else on the planet sided with Drake when the feud between Meek Mill and Drizzy broke out in late July. It all started when Meek Mill decided to accuse Drake of using a ghostwriter, Quentin Miller (who, funny enough, was credited in Drake’s LP “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late) and tweeted, “Stop comparing Drake to me too. He don't write his own raps!" OK Meek Mill, take the drama down a notch.
As expected, Drake did not stay quiet. Drake first responded with the chill track, “Charged Up,” which Meek Mill responded with “baby lotion soft” and “I can tell he wrote that 1 tho.” Three days later, Drake released another strong track called “Back to Back Freestyle.” With part two of the diss going viral, no one was keeping their opinions to themselves with a majority of people supporting Drake.
At this point, Meek Mill was getting all the publicity he could get and his album, "Dreams Worth More Than Money," is now getting constantly talked about and listened to, just because the spotlight was on him. It debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 200 chart and sold over 200,000 copies in its first week. What does he do in response to all this? He fired back with his own diss track “Wanna Know,” and plummeted his album straight to the bottom. If you’re going to release a diss track and not have it be amazing, don’t release it at all, am I right?
This past weekend in Toronto, at the 6th annual OVO Fest, a picture was leaked of Drake rehearsing while wearing a “Free Meek Mill” T-shirt. Drake did not stop there. At the performance, Drake live debuted both new releases and featured high-profile guests like Future, Kanye, Travi$ Scott, etc. He even went so far as to flash memes mocking his enemy (found on Twitter and Instagram) on the screens behind him while he was rapping.
Moral of the story, don’t mess with the calm, cool and collected, Drizzy Drake unless you want the end of your career to come sooner than you planned. In case you're unaware of how Drake rolls, here's what you missed on Twitter:
- “Is that a world tour, or your girl’s tour?”- “Back to Back Freestyle”
- WhataBurger tweeted at Meek, "Take it from us - if you gonna serve beef serve it high quality."
- Toronto Councillor Norm Kelly got in on it and tweeted, "This is the reason people hire ghostwriters #WeDidntWannaKnow"
- Detroit Pistons Brandon Jennings even offered to write Mill a check if he'd quit rapping.
- Helper tweeted, “TIL: They raise Grade-A beef in Toronto.”
- Rosetta Stone hopped on the feud by tweeting, “We might not be able to translate the latest #MeekMill soundtrack, but we can help you learn languages most ppl speak.”
- White Castle didn’t hesitate either with this tweet, “It's ok, @MeekMill. Maybe the beef isn't your thing. #ChickenRings @Drake”
- Burger King- “All these burgers and they still got beef. #BackToBack”
- In response to a line in “Wanna Know,” Cineplex tweeted, “@Drake not in our theatre tho, right?”
- Eggland’s Best fueled the fire with, “Sorry @MeekMill, looks like you have egg on your face. @Drake wins. #overeasy.”
