Rapper Drake just finished hosting his seventh annual OVO Fest. OVO stands for October’s Very Own, as Drake was born on October 24. It is also the name of the record label in which he founded.
Before his latest OVO Fest performance is covered, let’s flashback to a few highlights of his past OVO performances.
Drake’s first OVO Fest took place in 2010, just a year after his first album dropped, "So Far Gone. "Performing at this festival were a couple of the biggest names in the music industry at that time, Eminem and Jay-Z.
In 2011, he shared the stage with not only Nas, but also with Lil Wayne. His guests did not stop at two however, Stevie Wonder also made a special appearance.
By 2012, Drake added more guests to his festival lineup. He was already starting to outdo himself, something fans would notice as a reoccurring theme. Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross, Waka Flocka Flame, Meek Mill, and French Montana all surprised the fans. This third annual festival could be described as anything but boring.
Fast forward to 2013, the year when Drake decided OVO Fest was just too huge of an event to pack it all into one night. From there, OVO Fest was expanded to two nights. Unfortunately, this was the year when Frank Ocean was unable to attend due to strained vocal cords. Together, Lil Wayne, J. Cole, A$AP Rocky, French Montana, Miguel, The Weeknd, Kanye West, and more made up for it.
When 2014 came along, Drake’s OVO Fest was still surprising fans each and every time with new featured guests. This year it was 50 Cent, DJ Khaled, Usher, Trey Songz, Partynextdoor, YG, the list going on and on.
Last year, in 2015, Drake’s guests featured Future, the return of Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Big Sean, and new rapper at the time, Travis Scott.
And finally, the highlights of Drake’s seventh annual OVO Fest are in. This year Drake combined his festival with his Summer Sixteen tour.
The first night in Canada was opened by DVSN before it was time for Drake and Future to take over. A few songs Drake performed that night were Fire & Desire, 9, Pop Style, and Hotline Bling. These songs are from his latest album, Views. Drake also performed hits from If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. A few other songs he performed were Headlines, Trophies, and Big Rings.
It was not just him and Future on stage that night, Rihanna also joined. Together they performed "Work," a song from her album, as well as Too Good from Views.
On the second night the stage was booming with music and bursting with lights. Rihanna had rejoined him to sing their most popular songs again.
Drake did keep the show new and interesting as Kanye West and French Montana made an appearance. Drake and Kanye West performed Pop Style before rapping a few of his own records like, Famous and Father Stretch My Hands. As for him and French Montana, they performed their new song, No Shopping.
Before the show came to an end for that second night, Drake and Kanye hinted at their new project. They asked the audience if they were ready for their joint album.
After OVO Fest sadly came to an end, Drake went on to continue his Summer Sixteen Tour. The tour began in July and is scheduled to end in September. As for his joint album with Kanye West, hopefully we can expect that to be dropped next year.
