The Downward Slope That Is This Generation

But there is a sense of hope.

We now live in a generation where a series of pixels and a complex binary language controls the average millennials self-esteem, self-evaluation, friends, relationships, and happiness. Priorities have shifted to checking twitter and Snapchat within 60-second intervals. It's considered rare to find an act of kindness and when a moment of such kindness presents itself, there has to be a catch, or it's simply "just a prank bro". Between the media's installation of fear and the real threat of terrorism, it's impossible to even walk around the streets without having to fear the extreme. When has it come about being purely politically correct rather than the matters that pose a serious threat? When did this generation take a turn for the worst? When did it become cool to pull a prank pretending to be a terrorist capable of tearing apart families? When did it become mainstream to stay inside and enjoy other people's experiences through a set of pixels rather than create new and unique experiences only for your eyes and your eyes only. Where is the sense of adventure in living your life in a shell of strangers memories? Where is the appeal in being an immoral, in-genuine, and vial person in internet to gather a meaningless set of numbers to gain a paycheck? This is the reality of the world we live in now and it's difficult to accept the world for what it is.

Being born into a world where you feel anger and immaturity rule, it makes one wonder and envy the past. What happened to drive in movie theaters, an actual face to face conversation, and a time where morals were priority. Perhaps it's just me glorifying a time prior mine as a sort of "grass is greener on the other side" type of thing but imagining a different world will never solve the issue. Everyone believes they were meant for other things or meant for another time. Let me ask you to do something, and for a moment take a break from reality, take a break from the real world and think about what you want this world to be. Now think about what is more plausible, simply finishing this article and continuing on with your life complaining to yourself that this world doesn't make sense, it doesn't play by the rules of morality and humanity like it should or is it more sensible to do something about it.

I'm asking you to stop giving in to the backward evolution of humanity. We're down a path of disconnection and ignorance ruled by a sense of popularity or fear. Do what is right and don't feed into meaningless and harmful mainstream masses. Be the one to stick out and swim upstream. If everyone fought the current of a whirlpool, the current will shift. If done correctly, the current could be diminished. Be the change you want to see and stop feeding into the toxic ideas that spread vial hate and pointless stupidity. Let's return to the times where morality was the leading voice in our heads rather than the amount of favorites we receive or the attention we get from spreading the pure crap the media sh*ts out for us to believe. If we stop giving into the storm which is all the toxins of the modern day, the storm will clear. Let's not look into the past for the good times but the future with anticipation.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
