Much like the world of Wonderland, the world we live in is filled with quite a bit of nonsense. At some point in our lives, we will all feel like we have fallen down a rabbit hole and are lost in an unfamiliar place.
There are going to be days where we feel like everyone around us is mad, or that we are mad ourselves. We are sure to encounter a few Mad Hatters or maybe participate in a round of croquet with the evil Queen of Hearts.
In addition to its fun characters, brave heroin, and world where anything is possible, the story of Alice in Wonderland can also teach us a lot of profound life lessons.
You are a different person today than you were yesterday.
Everyday, we face new experiences that change us either for the better or for the worse. Often times, people are weighed down by mistakes they have made in the past. They focus on the disappointments, the choices that they didn’t make but wish they did, and that goal they didn’t quite reach.
What people seem to forget is that those things happened in the past; maybe it was yesterday or ten years ago. We are never the same person we were the day before and we will not be who we are today, tomorrow. The point is, it is up to you to decide if you want to continue to be the person you were yesterday or to work at being a better person tomorrow.
We are all a little nuts.
According to the cat, we are all mad. That may seem silly to say, but when you think about it, it has to be true. I am not saying that we are all running around wild and unhinged.
What I do mean, however, is that we are all different. Everyone has their own little quirks that others may think make them a little bonkers. We have to learn to accept these quirks instead of seeing them as weird or abnormal.
Dream of the impossible.
Alice, the increasingly curious little girl, was always dreaming of impossible things no matter how many times she was told it was ridiculous. While some things will always be impossible, dreaming of impractical things is not a bad thing.
Setting high goals and striving to meet them is something that everyone can and should do. It is important to never let anyone define what your limits are. You are the only one who can decide what is possible for you.
You might just need to fall into a few rabbit holes to figure out where you want to go.
Many times, the pressures of life cause people to crumble. Their lives seem out of control and they fall down a deep dark hole. Alice had no clue where she was going when she fell, or even after she landed.
Despite this, she immediately began looking for a way out. The entire time Alice was in Wonderland, she was looking for a way home.
When people fall down a hole, whether it’s depression, drugs, or other burdens, it’s easy to stay there, but they should follow in Alice’s footsteps and begin searching for a way out of the hole instead of being content with being there.
For some, the only way to figure out where you truly should be or what you want in life is to fall down a deep, dark hole, bump your head on the way down, bruise your soul a little bit, and then get back up, brush yourself off and look for a way out.
Say what you mean and mean what you say.
Throughout the story, Alice is constantly being asked what she means. A lot of the time, people do not think before they speak.
In some cases, people are too afraid to say what they actually mean, or they really just don't know what they mean. Sometimes, it is better to take time to figure out what you actually want to say and what you mean before you speak.
It is also extremely important to mean what you say. When you say something to someone, mean it. If you don't intend on following through with a promise, then don't make the promise.
Follow your own advice.
A lot of the time, people are good at giving fantastic advice to others but don't seem to follow that advice when they find themselves in a similar situation. In my opinion, if it is good enough to give to a friend, then it is good enough to follow yourself.
