For those who haven't been far away from home, staying 24/7 at a college dorm can be a bit daunting. Though college can been a fun and exciting time, sometimes we just miss our own room and house. Homesickness is completely natural during this time, but there are ways to make your dorm feel a little more at home. I find that by brightening up the new space, I feel a lot better about my dorm and I feel more comfortable living and sleeping in my brand new living area. Hopefully, these things can help you bring a piece of that "homey" feel back with you while you are far away from home.

1. Bring Your Favorite Possessions With You

One way to transfer a bit of home with you is to bring some of your favorite possessions with you. Whether it be your favorite blanket, pillow, video game, or teddy bear, carrying your favorite things with you to college can take a load off of your mind. Trust me when I say that this helps a lot when you miss home because by doing this now you have a little bit of that "homey" feel with you no matter what. It just brings a bit of comfort on good and bad days.

2. Grab Some Pictures From Home

When you miss your favorite people in your life, pictures are definitely the way to go. You may miss your parents, guardians, family, and friends, but you can always bring some memories of them with you. Whenever you find yourself missing the most important people in your life, you can always bring a little bit with you by setting up a few photos. You know what they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

3. How About Some Plants?

If you just want something to brighten up your living space, plants are definitely the way to go. A plant is a good piece of decoration and is sort of like a pet as well. Personally, as a busy college student, sometimes you can forget to water a plant in the midst of all your tests and projects. That's why I think the best plants for dorms are cacti and succulents because they do not require much watering. Personally, plants really add a lot to a room and make it feel a lot "homier".

4. Posters Really Brighten Up The Room!

Blank walls can be very daunting and plain. In my opinion, too blank walls can be prison-like. That's why posters can really be a fun addition to any space. They can be anything from your favorite movie, show, or band. No matter what, seeing your favorite things on the wall not only brings a bit of joy, but makes the room feel a bit warmer as well.

5. Why not get a pet?

For those missing a pet back at home, getting a small pet for the dorm can be very comforting. Though most colleges don't allow big animals, sometimes a pet fish is enough to feel more at home. Personally, I love betta fish and I have two of them myself. They are low maintenance and really make the room more livable. So if you are looking for a good way to make the dorm room more livable, consider getting a pet.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
