Making It Through Life When You're Feeling Down

Don't worry, be happy.

Making It Through Life When You're Feeling Down

Recently I have found myself down in the dumps. Lately, it seems as though anything that could go wrong, does go wrong. I catch myself being positive for about two hours and then becoming negative. So, when I am down and hard on myself I turn to music and dance. I always listen to Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy."

It relays a message that everything is going to be alright and not to worry. They used to be just lyrics, then I started to really listen. This song helped me channel back to times where I thought I wasn't going to succeed. Yet, in those times I prevailed and made it through. So now I want to give you a little motivation to help you in any situation you may face.

You are on this earth for a reason or a purpose. Whether you play sports, work, or go to school you are here to make a difference in this crazy world. Sometimes it takes longer than usual, but that's OK as long as you get there. You have to work hard to overcome these hard obstacles. "Good things come to those who go out and get it."

You have felt like a failure before. There is not one person that has never felt like a failure, so you're not alone. Reaching your goals will take time and you're not going to get it right every time and that's alright. When you finally achieve your goals, you will cherish and appreciate them more because of the struggles you had to overcome in order to reach your finish line.

Everyone has been there before. You are never alone in this world no matter what you believe. It is very easy to believe negative thoughts when you’re being hard on yourself. You will always have someone in your life that is cheering you on, whether it is a family member, a friend, or even a stranger you have just met. I promise you will meet at least one person that has been in your shoes before and they will give you hope. When you do run into this person take their advice because it means you are doing exactly what you’re supposed to be doing.

It is OK to break down. The strongest people have dealt with pain and suffering; what you have to understand is that pain is temporary. This feeling will not last forever even when you feel like it will. This doesn’t make you weak; this makes you stronger. Usually, the best medicine for these situations is to cry, so put on some Adele and cry your eyes out!

Don’t worry, be happy! This journey is beautiful, through the high times and the low times. Do not give up, wake up every morning look in the mirror and smile. Smile because you are alive, smile because you are going to kick the day’s ass, smile because you are strong. You will get through whatever obstacle or struggle that comes your way. Keep pushing towards your goal, use your whole heart and do not let anyone tell you different. You are amazing and will make a change in the world no matter how big or small it may be. Work as though you may die tomorrow; leave your mark on this beautiful world.

I leave you with this... Wake up every morning with a purpose, smile every chance you can, work hard and smart, and lastly love unconditionally. In the end, love conquers all, and if you have strong love you will have a strong life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
