2018 is almost upon us and with this new year comes a “new me,” right? This is the time when we all release our breath over the terribleness of the past year. We are able to move on and forget all the horrendous things that happened.
We see posts about leaving it all behind and how to make 2018 “your year.” Sorry to say, but there will never be a year where everything goes “right.” All these “new year, new me” mantras are lies we tell ourselves. Instead, we need to transform ourselves into the people we want to be every second of every day.
I always found it odd how people would wait until the New Year to change themselves or make a change in their life. I never understood why they couldn’t just make that change immediately. What I mean is this.
If I notice something about myself that I think needs to be improved such as focusing more time on family, I’m not going to wait until 2018 to make that change. I am going to make my family a priority at once, or at least make sure I start working towards that goal.
As a society, we are always looking ahead and hoping things will be better each year. I constantly hear people say things along the lines of “this year sucked but it’s okay because 2018 will be way better.”
There is no guarantee that next year will be better. More than likely people will find some reason or another to say that 2018 sucked too and the vicious cycle repeats itself.
My point is this, don’t become a part of that vicious cycle. Keep your head up each and every day, be aware of any change that needs to happen in your life and focus on the good things that happened this year.
Focus on what made this year great because we far too often find ourselves consumed by the negative. It’s great to have goals and want change in your life, so don’t wait until the New Year, start now. I highly doubt you’ll regret it.
