Instagram will be changing how it presents photos and videos you see on your feed from chronological order to algorithm, much like how Facebook is set up.
But before you freak out, the change isn't happening yet.
Last week Instagram was filled with dozens of accounts posting pictures with arrows pointing to the three dots in the corner to turn on notifications for that account, making people believe that the change would happen soon. The changes will be coming, but not for a while.
"Despite the rumors, no feed changes are being implemented right now — we still have weeks, or even months, of testing to go," said an Instagram spokesman, "Currently the test groups are very small. When we roll it out broadly, we will definitely let the community know," according to The New York Times.
If you do decide to turn on the notifications, then you will be notified every time that person posts a picture. Every single time, so if you hate notifications don't turn them on for someone who posts a lot. If you don't turn on notifications for accounts, then the pictures and videos that will appear on your feed will be ones that you view the most. If you rarely like or comment on an account's photo, those photos won't show up as often.
"On average, people miss about 70 percent of posts in their Instagram feed," said Kevin Systrom, co-founder and chief executive of Instagram,"This is about making sure that the 30 percent you see is the best 30 percent possible," according to The New York Times.
Many organizations and celebrities have criticized this future change, since social media has become a staple to selling merchandise and building a fanbase.
Nina Dobrev, actress in shows like "Vampire Diaries," tweeted "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Many want Instagram to remain on the same format, but it is indeed happening. Not soon, but in the future. So if you really love an account and like everything they post, then you don't need to turn on the notifications because you will most likely see it.
So take a deep breathe and keep posting your selfies and food pics, if you get a lot of "likes" now, then you will still probably continue to do so.
Keep Calm and Insta On.
