It's inevitable for us to get so caught up in our busy lives that we tend to forget just how important it is to truly live in the moment. We live for the big things, the exciting things, instead of always appreciating the little things. We live for the weekends, the holidays, or the vacation we’ve been dreaming of for years, instead of cherishing the days we spend in bed with a pint of ice cream.
We forget that our time is limited. Eventually, with everything we do, we will reach a finish line. Take, for instance, college. Most of us will be in college for four years; 1,460 days. College is arguably said to be the best years of life. Think about it, for most of us, there's no taxes to pay, no full-time job to worry about, no bills to stress over; we're not nearly thrown into the harsh and scary real world.
With that being said, as college students, we shouldn't sit here and complain about having to wake up for our 8am class or whine about our research paper that we decided to save for the last minute. We should embrace every day and not just go through the motions.
In four or so years, when you're thrown out into the real world suffering from post-grad depression, you're going to wish you took full advantage of your time at school. I mean, when else is it acceptable to go out every single night of the week and show up to work/class the next morning in the same attire you wore out the night before, extremely hungover? So day drink on a Sunday, hit the bars on a Tuesday, try out for that club sports team, ask your professor for help, eat a whole pizza to yourself; be spontaneous. You'll never be as young as you are in this exact moment again, so stop stressing the little things, stop being conditioned to think that just because it's a Monday, your day is a drag. Make your Monday's as exciting and enjoyable as your Friday's.
As I'm approaching the final weeks of my sophomore year of college, I can't help but wonder where the time went. I feel like I was just coming in as a freshman, attending orientation and worrying about having to use a communal bathroom. Looking back on my past four semesters, I've realized how many times I've let something irrelevant set me off and ruin my day or week, or how many times I haven't taken full advantage of opportunities I was presented with. Thinking of only have two more years at school - with how fast these past two have gone by - makes me strive to make every day a memorable and unforgettable one. In two years, my best friends won't be living in the room next to me and I'll have a whole new set of responsibilities to stress over. Don't stress the things you can't change, make every day a new adventure.
College is the best four years of your life, make it count.
