It's the morning, and I have class in an hour. "Crap, I don't feel like driving to school...maybe I can get away with missing this one lecture..." Another day starts, "Ugh, I don't want to go today...I just want to sleep!" This happens constantly throughout the semester. Now, my grade is not what I want it to be, and I am struggling to learn new material.
Let's face it, we have all thought about missing class because we are tired, hungover from a party, or just don't feel like going, but there are serious consequences when you constantly skip class. Grades start slipping, you lose track of what is going on, and you possibly drop or fail the class, wasting money. Believe it or not, skipping classes can become a habit: a really hard habit to break. I know this because I have, and still am, experiencing the habit of skipping my classes. Once the idea of skipping is in my mind, I can't shake it, and the majority of the time I end up not going to my class. But the reason I want to skip most of the time is because I want to sleep, which is quite absurd when I could raise my grade if I just attended class.
When you skip class, even one class, you could be behind for a while. It might leave you struggling the rest of the semester, which just adds more unwanted stress. It may seem like a good idea at the moment, but skipping class overall leaves more work and stress that you would care to have. Skipping class is like when you stop going to the gym and slowly start feeling like crap and gaining weight. The outcome isn't good.
Some people might tell you that they skip class and are able to catch up and get a good grade. That may be true, but why start when it doesn't kill you to go to class? They may be missing out on good conversation and cool facts. It's better to not start a bad habit like that, because the further you go in college, the harder the classes get. And once the habit of skipping is in place, it is very difficult to break. Also, you are paying for the classes; might I add a lot of money for them!
So my message to those of you that like to skip or think it's cool to skip class, don't skip. In the end, you will be filled with regret that you didn't go. You will also be filled with questions and stress because you might not know what the professor lectured about or what homework was assigned. Most of the time it is just best to suck it up and go even if you are super tired, super hungover, or slightly sick. In the end...don't be an ass, go to class!
