With the election coming up in just a few short weeks, I'm sure many Americans (myself included) are feeling the same way. Confused, concerned, and scared for the fate of our country. We may find ourselves thinking, is this really the best we've got? We have arguably the two most crooked people as candidates for the most honorable position in the country. I know this can be very unsettling, but don't panic.
With the tense position that this country is in right now, it can be so easy to lose hope. But please, don't lose hope just yet. If we lose hope now, who knows what will happen. We must not forget what this government was founded for and the influence that we, the people, have in our government.
Not too long ago, my student government president asked us (the house and the senate) who holds the most power- us, or her? At the beginning of this discussion, we all thought that she had the most power because of her title as president... But she soon proved us wrong. A title means nothing. Having a voice and being able to use it to institute change is the most powerful tool you could possibly have. As Americans, we are given that voice with our right to vote.
We often underestimate the power that we have because we feel that those in positions higher than ours have stronger voices than we do. We forget that the government is here for us. Without the people, the government would have no purpose to serve. Many years ago, men and women just like us fought long and hard to obtain the rights that we often take for granted today. Our influence is greater than we can imagine and now more than ever, it is important to let our voices be heard. Please, don't lose your opportunity to make a change.
Use that voice that I know you have and make a difference.
