No, We Don't Know What We're Doing, But Let Me Tell You Why That's OK

It's not quite time to buckle down completely, so take this opportunity to screw up, to dream, to adventure, and to live.

For many of us, we are entering that stage of life which means BIG decisions.

In the next ten years, all of us will be faced with life-changing choices like getting married, buying a house, and having children and honestly, it's a little unbelievable. A few years ago, many of us were trying to figure out what college to go to and were dating someone we swore we would marry. Fast-forward to the present: we're halfway through college or even graduating, and that big unknown is staring us right in the face.

I don't know about you, but I'm not sure what comes next.

The fact that I don't know what my life will become in the next few years doesn't fill me with anxiety and fear. I'll admit, at times it can be a little unnerving, but I know that we're about to strap into the coolest rollercoaster ever and we'll be zooming through the years hardly catching our breaths.

We'll be making those huge decisions in a blink and before we know it, we'll be completely settled whether it's with a family, a partner, or living only for ourselves and I don't know how anyone couldn't get a little thrill of excitement over that.

Entering that third decade of our lives is incredible. Ten years ago, our parents still had every say over what we did, and we thought the biggest problem was acne and the fact that that middle school dweeb checked 'no' to 'will you go out with me?'. Now, look at us.

We can speculate, and we can wonder, and we can plan, but we really don't know what comes next, and that is completely fine. It's not quite time to buckle down completely, so take this opportunity to screw up, to dream, to adventure, and to live. When it comes time to enter that fourth decade of life, I want to look at my life and who is in it and smile because I will know that I took every opportunity and ran with it.

I want to be proud of what I did. We all have a plan of what we want to happen, but honestly, who knows what comes next and I don't know about you, but I can't wait.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
