Don't Change Who You Are

All I see on Twitter and Instagram are people I've never met in person. I see girls with different figures that I never thought were possible to obtain. It's a curse of the world we live in, where we want to impress everyone online.

Stop editing your pictures. People notice.

I get on Instagram, and I instantly see the curves in the walls and the lines that are no longer straight. These are mainly in selfies of girls trying to change their image to be slimmer or make certain parts of their body to appear larger. Believe me, I have been guilty of this in the past, but at 19 years old, I decided to stop caring. You are not the person in the pictures. You are not always smiling and do not always have make up on. Your hair is not always perfectly curled or straight. Your nails are not always properly manicured and your clothes are not always top dollar designer apparel. So be who you are, and not who you want people to think you are. If you post a ton of "done up" selfies or posts of what you do to be the person in the pictures and not your actual self, people notice. Believe me.

I now post non-edited pictures where I no longer wear make up all the time or have just gotten off of work. That is the true me. And what I figured out is people like you more when you show your true self.

Learn to love yourself, the person who you are and not the person who people think you are. You are your past, your curves and your scars. Embrace it. You are your own perfect person and your own beautiful self. When I stopped worrying what people thought of me, life got a lot easier and I was a lot happier.

A lot of girls wear make up to impress guys, while some girls wear it to feel better about themselves. But currently make up is becoming an art. It's okay if you don't let it take over who you are. Guys don't wear make up. They tend to care about what people think of them less than girls do. And I have heard boys say that they wish they weighed more or argue with other guys about who is bigger. I am not stereotyping, but why can't girls be like that?

Now, I'm not saying you can't wear makeup, make your picture the "1985" edit or maybe blur that zit that is bugging the heck out of you. Just don't change yourself completely in a picture to try to impress other people because at the end of the day and at the end of all of this, the only opinion about you that is going to matter is your own. Everyone can tell you that you're beautiful with or without makeup, but it does not start taking meaning until you start to believe it on your own. So do me a favor, take off the make up, embrace your natural hair and your sweatpants that you love so much and take a picture. Remember that is who you are and who people learn to love at the end of it all. You can decide if you want to post it, but as Colbie Caillat says in "Try", "look in the mirror at yourself, do you like you? Cause I like you."

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
