At the end of December, everyone talks about their goals and the changes they wish to make in their lives for the upcoming year. By mid-January however, many have already forgotten the promises they had made to themselves at the start of the new year. However, the fact that New Year’s Resolutions rarely tend to last isn’t the reason I’m against them-- I’m against them because I feel that we should treat every day as a new opportunity to improve ourselves and our lives rather than wait to half-heartedly set goals at the start of each new year.
Each day is a gift, and one that we aren’t guaranteed to receive at that. So why waste each day waiting to make changes in our lives when we can start making them immediately? Every morning when you wake up you have the opportunity to start fresh, and I believe you should fully embrace that rather than wait around for a new year to start again. New Year’s Resolutions are simply procrastinated goals that we should’ve taken the time to incorporate into our lives when we originally thought of them, and that’s why I tend to find myself to be against them. So as the new year begins, try to take the phrase “new year new me” out of your vocabulary and instead welcome each day as a chance to start again.
