Don't Ask Me Who I'm Voting For

Because, honestly, I don't know.

Don't Ask Me Who I'm Voting For
DC Whispers

So, I live in Philadelphia. If you don’t know, the Democratic National Convention is happening in Philly this week. I also work at CVS. The CVS I work at is in South Philly, right across the street from the Wells Fargo Center. If you don’t know, the DNC is happening at the Wells Fargo Center. This wouldn’t be a huge issue except that the CVS is the only place that sells food within a 15-minute walk of the WFC, and it’s the only place visible from the WFC. I can assure you that it’s been crazy.

The crowd coming in is filled with volunteers, police officers, the press and -- my favorite -- protestors. Now, I feel like the word “protestor” has a negative connotation or at least the way I’ve been hearing it so far this week. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. I mean there are the 'anti-abortion, God hates gay people' protestors that I don’t like, but for the most part, the demonstrations and marches have been from groups that I identify with, like the Bernie Sanders supporters and the BlackLivesMatter Movement. And interacting with all these activists has me thinking.

Can I really give up my moral values for the sake of not giving Trump the election?

Hillary Clinton, in my opinion, would be a perfectly fine president. I think a Clinton presidency would look like an Obama presidency, maybe a little less liberal. But I also have faith that she’d do anything to get reelected meaning that she’d push the progressive agenda at least for her first four years.

However, I have a ton of issues with her. For starters, there’s just some illuminati stuff going on with her and her husband. They absolutely must have sold their souls to get where they’re at now. Second, I just can’t trust her. She’s done so much shady stuff -- like the email scandal and the things with the missing files -- and while she’s never been convicted of anything, there’s probably even worse things she’s done that she’s been more careful about. And why does she get away with everything? (Illuminati!)

I don’t think she actually cares about us, about the people. I haven’t actually seen her have a good interaction with an everyday person. Maybe that’s just because I tend to follow media outlets that don’t support her, but it’s alarming the amount of poor interactions she’s had with minorities and lower income families. She is the definition of white corporate feminism. She only cares about people like her and is shocked to find that anyone could live any other way. Most importantly, she has big business in her pocket. My two biggest issues with politics are voter suppression and getting big business out of politics.

And, honestly, I'm so scared that she won't work with the people. That everything she changed her mind on to unify the party -- aka to gain Sanders supporters -- was just to get the vote. I'm scared that there will be more war, more gang violence -- a throwback to the '90s when she and her husband decided to crack down on drug use and contributed to the the tremendously unnecessary War on Drugs. And I'm scared there will be less freedoms for the lower class and an overall conservative viewpoint on serious issues.

So how can I vote for her? Because, if not, it guarantees a Trump presidency? I don’t know if that’s enough for me to give up everything I’ve been fighting for for so long, now.

Maybe by the time the election rolls around, I’ll suck it up and give her my vote, but as of now, I’m hoping so badly that a strong third party candidate comes out of the woodwork. More than anything, I hope by the end of this week, the super delegates realize that Bernie is a much better candidate for both securing a win for the Democratic Party and for the people and switch over to his side. The nomination is, technically, contested at this point. But that’s a long shot.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
