Why do we have social media? Why do we get on dating apps like Tinder and Bumble? Why do we text our exes? Attention. We are the generation that loves attention. There's nothing wrong with it, it's human nature to love a good ego boost. It's time that we all admit it.
Think about it, when you're really into Chad, but he hasn't texted you back in three hours, are you going to text Brad; the guy you keep on the back burner for times like this? You're probably going to text Brad. You're going to flirt with him a little bit until Chad texts you. Then you're going to ghost Brad for the third time until you want his attention again. It's always nice to have your ego boosted after it was destroyed when you saw Read: 9:15 PM and it's 10:45 PM.
What about when you download Tinder for the seventh time. You swipe for a few days, match with a few people. You talk to them for a while, they tell you how attractive you are. You may even exchange Snapchats, and then when it comes time to make plans, you delete the app again. Sometimes you don't want to go through all the drama of hooking up, you just want someone to compliment you and then move on.
My favorite thing, that all of my friends do is go out, get a little too drunk and text our exes. Whether it was a whole relationship or just a fling, sometimes you just want to be reminded of the feeling of being the object of someone's affection. It's almost the same as when you were texting Brad; you feel as if that person is something to fall back on. If this doesn't work out, I'll always know I have this person.
Whether you want to admit it or not, we all do these things or have done them at least once. We all get bored, right? Anyway, happy attention-getting!
