When it comes to starting school, whether you are in high school or college, there are many things that are more important than many think.

One of the most important things when starting school is setting goals. Goals for yourself. Goals for your academic status. Goals for your extracurricular activities. Setting goals is the best way to put yourself at a good mindset before being put under all of the stress that school can bring.

Goals for yourself can be a wide range of things. Physical health goals, mental health goals, employment goals, and many more. Physical health goals don't have to mean exercise.

It can simply mean becoming okay with your physical appearance. It can mean becoming more comfortable in different clothing items that you have always wanted to try.

Mental health goals can mean trying therapy for the first time. It can mean reminding yourself of good things every morning to start your day right. Mental health can mean something different to every person.

So, whatever that means to you, make sure you help yourself in whatever way you can. Going into a new school year with mental health issues can make the transition and stress even harder and more difficult to deal with.

The crazy thing is, that's not even close to all of the goals you can set for yourself. Become better at math, go to more social events, drink less coffee, or drink more coffee to help you stay awake during the day.

Whatever your goals are, make sure you set them and stick to them. Write them down and keep track of them. For your big goals, find a way to remind yourself about them every day.

Have a motivation board with all of your goals on it. Write it down in a notebook and check them off once you have reached that goal. Anything is possible if you put your time and energy into it.

When going into college, you really need to make sure that you are ready early! Now, when going into something new, you are never truly ready until after you've started.

Especially with college, it isn't like any other schooling most people have been through. Making sure you ask around and look into everything you will need or need to know is very beneficial.

The biggest thing is staying focused and not straying from your purpose for being there. Staying focused is so important when facing newer and bigger challenges.

Falling off your path can mess up the rest of your year. From personal experience, it can cause you to lose hope and feel like you may never get to the point you are wanting to be at.

Going along with that, surrounding yourself with good influences right away can help with everything!!

Friends and anyone else who you are close to can help you through anything that may affect you during school. Even teachers and advisors can help you.

The best thing you can do is find people to trust and allow yourself to be open with those people. Opening up can be very beneficial to anyone.

Hiding in your room all year and only focusing on the school could make your personal life very down and lonely. Many of the people I have met in college were because I opened myself up to others and they opened up to me.

I know that this article was a little all over the place, but there are a lot of things that you need to think about when it comes time for school. My most basic and most important piece of advice is to just be yourself.

People are more likely to be around you if you are your unique self. Being yourself all the time can also help you stay more positive and be happier with yourself. Hiding who you are is never the better option.

If anyone has an issue with you, find other people to be around.

Always focus on yourself. You will never be your best self if you hide your priorities.

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.

I am without a doubt one of those people who refuses to start decorating for Christmas or listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving has become an underrated holiday over the years. You barely see any Thanksgiving decorations in stores; it's like they skip right from Halloween to Christmas.
