The album "Calm" was release on March 27th which blew up the internet with its impact because it was long awaited since 5SOS had released some songs before the album dropped such as "Teeth" and "No Shame". Many people have been rating the songs on the album on a 1/10 scale, I decided to do the same. So no hate please these are just my opinions.
Red Desert: 7/10
I gave this a 7/10 because it is still a really good song and the harmonies are amazing. However, as the song progress you expect it to go really hard at some point from the continuous build up, but it slows down leaving the song feeling incomplete to me in someways. Other than the feeling of being incomplete the vocals were amazing and still had sound that just flowed.
No Shame: 10/10
No Shame has something so different about it that makes unique to me drawing me in. It builds up to just the right moment to have the beat drop at the drums go hard. As well as the interesting retro feel to it. The vibe it gives off is happy and care free that it speaks to me in a different why. It's different and a great song to dance and sing at the top of your lungs.
Old Me: 8/10
I find this to be a good cry to song because of its sounds and the lyrics. When your down this can bring you back up even if your in a tough spot. The different vocals being shown as Luke ranges his voice he just a lot of passion in the words being sung. However, the reason I give it an 8/10 is because it doesn't give me that feeling of star stuck when it is sung, but it is still one of my favorites on this album.
Easier: 6/10
It's not may most favorite song on this album simply because I have listened to it so many times. It had meaningful lyrics and vocals with great instrumental support in the background especially with drums, but to me in very overplayed that I got sick of it after awhile. If I stopped listening to it for maybe a month it would be another favorite of mine, but at this moment its just okay. But I cannot deny that fact it was made extremely well; the execution is great with how they created the song and decided to put it together.
Teeth: 10/10
This is a 10/10 for me because I enjoy hype songs like this were there is a great build up to a heavy bass and loud vocals. Then it drops again to build and it just a roller coaster of amazing where I could just head bang to it the whole time. It has such a darker tone to it that makes it different. The ending I think is my favorite because of its continue instrumentals showing off their talent but also the fade out at the very end just ties the whole song together.
Wildflower: 8/10
This is very different for 5SOS to make, but it fits them at the same time. Its soft but also still has that power they are know for in their songs. Wildflower reminds me of a 80's movie at its climax of the story where everything is starting to work out for everyone. It has a very "head in the clouds" feel that I enjoy, I can see myself listening to this in a car during a long drive.
Best Years: 9/10
Nostalgic, That is what pops into my head when I first listened to this song. There is something about it and how they produced the song that takes away all my worries and makes me happy while I listen. I'm not sure why it makes me nostalgic, but it just triggers something in my head that reminds me of the past and all the good times.
Not in the Same Way: 6/10
This is another good cry to song. However, I give it a 6/10 because the back up vocals turn me away. For me it just seems to high for this song which makes it hard to listen to. The climax of the song though as great lyrics and pace its just the back up vocals that harmonies I don't like.
Lover of Mine: 10/10
It's a very emotional song that speaks to me on a level I can't explain I want to cry, but also smile in remembrance of the past. It fills my heart with pain and acceptance of the past at the same time which is difficult to do with a song. Listening to this song can put me to sleep, which is a good thing to me, and also make me cry the power this song has over me is something hard to do. Not many songs make me feel like this, when a song gives me goosebumps and can make me cry is something amazing.
Thin White Lies: 9/10
I can feel the pain in his voice and in the lyrics. It has so much passion that I love to hear in music it makes me think about my life and all the heartbreak I have been through. It's a perfect balance of soft but still has the 5SOS feel to it that makes them who they are. I really enjoy this song for its lyrical style and passion in it.
Lonely Heart: 10/10
The build up at the beginning before the chorus beat drops is very interesting because you expect it to be a slow sad song but then it builds to this angry beat. It's as if the anger is boiling up and dispersing again through out the song. It shocked me listening to it for the first time, I didn't except that change in tempo with this song.
High: 7/10
Its too slow for my liking which is why I put it at a lower rating, but it still has some meaningful lyrics that I can vibe well with. The lyrics speak to me in my heart making it hurt just a little, but doesn't make a huge impact on my mind. It's a good song to end the album on but it is not my favorite.
Overall this album is amazing and I recommend everyone listen and make their own judgments because I sound this album to be very interesting to critic and give my opinion on.
