Donald Trump IS Your President and It’s Time To Accept That

Although many Americans have rejected the victory of Trump in the recent election, the protests and fighting must come to an end.

Donald Trump IS Your President and It’s Time To Accept That

The results from the 2016 presidential election were shocking, to say the least. Americans were washed away with absolute mortification at the prospect of Trump leading the country for the next four years- and can you blame them? His lack of experience in politics makes him unequipped for office, his blatant racism, sexism, and discrimination is sure to cause this country to socially regress, and his questionable morales make him untrustworthy to the public. The list of reasons why this man is unsuited for presidency is admittedly infinite, but the truth of the matter is that Donald Trump has been elected to be the President of the United States, will officially begin his term when he is inaugurated into office on January 1, 2017, and there is nothing we can do about it.

Many people -- especially teens -- have engaged in various forms of protest against Trump. Some have chosen a more outright way to speak their mind by marching through the major cities of the U.S. with signs against Trump, while others have settled with more low-key statements such as taking to social media or wearing shirts/pins with the popular slogan, “He is not my President”.

While it is admirable that these individuals feel passionately enough about politics to come together and do something, the outcome of these antics will remain fruitless and to be quite frank, it’s a waste of time. We get it, you’re unhappy. Most of America is. However, no amount of whining or complaining is going to change anything; protesters are just deluding themselves with false hope if they believe their actions will truly make a difference.

Besides, not all protesters are genuine with their motives. Although many do feel strongly about keeping Trump out of office, there are others who attend rallies for the social aspect rather than to fight for what is right. A trendiness has developed around these political protests, and people are being drawn by the allure of fitting in and following what others are doing.

Instead of pointlessly fighting a battle that can’t be won, Americans should be rallying together to support each other in this time of change. This country will never be able to progress in the way it needs if its citizens are too preoccupied at each other’s necks. Trump’s win was a heavy blow, but it’s time to move on.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
