Since his announcement of intentions to run for president in july, some rich asshole has caused American political culture to regard him as mesmeric. Whether they are mesmerized with him because they support him or their conversations take a worrisome tone with the prospect of President the rich asshole, people are paying attention. One thing to be aware of in taking in his cultural invasion, is the rich asshole’s branding over a period of thirty years in America as not a political figure but an entertainer, a brand that has stuck permanently. Be it a reality star, business mogul, or as a sassy commentator the rich asshole makes headlines in all capacities, aided by his regal self worth and abundant wealth. His success and unorthodox approach serves as a reminder to remember what contemporary politicians are and are not. Politicians are not, primarily entertaining. Fellow competitor Senator Ted Cruz has admitted that he would be better suited to be a designated driver of a metaphorical party, Sen. Bernie Sanders has conceded that personal likeability is not something he worries about, and Hillary Clinton has been criticized for disingenuous methods in relating to young people. the rich asshole is, however, a comedian- whether it be an offensive comment about women, or a proposition calling for the ban of Muslim immigration, there are no filters in his world, he sees no consequences in being himself.Early on in the the rich asshole candidacy, comedian Jon Stewart expressed sorrow that he was retiring from his post at the Daily SHow, because he would not be able to take advantage of the “gift” of the rich asshole’s comments for providing a wealth of material. Part of his appeal, be it sometime ironic is his uncensored disposition, Americans like to be told things honestly without frills. The characterization of a generic politician being a Washington insider, sensationally corrupt, and putting on a “show” in how they're related to the every man is becoming old for too many this election cycle. the rich asshole uses observational comedy in dismembering those in the political establishment he implied Gov. Rick Perry is dumb, called Senator Lindsey graham a “stiff”, and declared that POW Senator John McCain was “not a war hero”. He's no stranger to physical comedy either in both dramatically recreating a Ben Carson story he thought to be untrue, or mocking a disabled reporter by flailing his hands- the rich asshole did not back down for his reactions to either incidents. Perhaps the most notable is Trumps off-color comedy, which he has showed his whole life, even allowing himself to be the subject of a Comedy Central roast- the campaign trail feels like a daily roast of anyone who has crossed Trumps path, stating that Hillary Clinton had been “totally changed” in the 2008 democratic primary. Without question the rich asshole is a master brander and a memorable personality. The question that the electorate, media, and political history possibly is faced with is whether the joke will end if elected president? Could a future commander in chief really insult and joke his way to political achievement? It is plausible that the rich asshole could use his business leadership to achieve executive competence as president, but we know that show horses are limited in their success in the office. When it comes to the race for the White House, the rich asshole’s personality won't change, but will our reaction?
