Donald Trump-

When you first announced that you were running for the Presidency, I have to admit that I thought is was a joke. Surely, the billionaire with a TV show wasn't serious about taking political office. At most, I thought you would last a few months and than drop out. So I laughed it off and didn't take you put much thought into it.

One of the first things that I can recall hearing from your 'platform' on immigration was to build a giant wall around the border of the United States of America and to have Mexico pay for it. This surely, was the funniest thing I had, and would ever, hear. I thought my fellow Americans would feel the same way, but many agreed with you, and that scared me.

As both parties began to hold televised debates, I didn't think that you would be able to hold up (issue wise) with the experienced politicians in the room, and I think you knew this too. Why else would you resort to insulting the other candidates and avoid difficult questions? You attacked Carly Fiorina for the way she looks, made sexist comments toward Megyn Kelly when you said, “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her… wherever.” You stereotyped the people of an entire culture by saying, “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems. They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime. They’re rapists and some, I assume, are good people, but I speak to border guards and they’re telling us what we’re getting.” You focused more on insulting your competitors than on real issues. You've dismissed global warming as a hoax and have compared gay rights to a game of golf. You belittled John McCain when you claimed he wasn't a war hero solely on the basis that he was captured. Even your slogan, which you claim you came up with yourself (much like your wife came up with her speech at the RNC), "Make America Great Again," was actually used by Ronald Reagan back in the 80s. Your campaign, to say the least, has been laughable.

And than I watched as you jumped from state to state during the primaries. I watched as thousands of people got in line just to see you for 45 minutes. I watched protesters line up and walk into the convention center with signs, only to be punched, kicked, and yelled at, something you only encouraged, until they left. You blamed the media for painting you and your supporters in a negative light, and these reporters were sometimes treated like protesters, and beaten by your adoring fans. You've turned national and international attacks into campaign strategies and used them to invoke fear and racism. You've considered tagging and removing people of a certain religion from the country, regardless of whether they are natural born citizens. You promote ignorance and to this day remain uneducated on most issues.

I wish I could go back to the days when I viewed your campaign as a joke. But now that you are the Republican nomination for president, it's safe to say that this 'joke' has gone too far. People are considering moving out of the United States if you are elected, countries that we consider to be our closest allies have debated keeping you out of their country, and the American people are more divided now than ever before.

For the sake of this country, whether you are the Trump man himself or just a supporter, please reconsider your personal beliefs regarding this country, people all over the world, and how you think a potential president should behave. Is being politically correct really that bad of a concept that we would rather elect someone who shows little to no respect to minorities, women, those who practice different religions, and people other countries? Or have we just forgotten this line from The Declaration of Independence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
