Dogs versus cats, which is the better pet? The age-old question that's been argued for decades, which no one really seems to have an answer to, although, to be honest, I can't help wondering why not -- I mean, isn't it obvious? One is literally called "man's best friend," shouldn't that make the answer clear enough? The list can go on and on as to why dogs are obviously the superior pet, but just to keep things short, here are the top five reasons why our canine companions take the cake here:
1. Protection
Regardless of the dog you have, they'll usually do whatever they can to protect you, and although some may be smaller than others, you can still bet that they'd still bite, snarl, and bark as much as they could just as long as it meant keeping their beloved master safe.
2. Training
Have you ever seen a cat do tricks? Probably not as much as you've seen dogs doing them. Videos of talented dogs are all over the Internet. Whether they're rolling over or rolling around on a skateboard, it's not easy to deny the fact that dogs have some serious moves. Not only that, but some canines can actually be taught to do specific tasks that benefit the health of other dogs or even human beings. These dogs, called service dogs, go through some rigorous training to do what they do, which is not only impressive but also pretty heartwarming.
3. Staying Active
Most, if not all, dogs love to be taken on walks, meaning that if you aren't all that active before you get your dog, you're going to be by the time he's done with you! Puppies and even older dogs love to run and play all throughout the day, and you can bet you're going to be one of your dog's favorite playmates!
4. Loyalty
When people say dog is a "man's best friend," they really do mean it. Like any best friend, if you treat them with love and respect, then they're sure to return the favor! To us, dogs may only seem like little friendly furballs, but to them, we're their family, especially when we've raised them from birth. That's why, even after punishing or scolding them, they'll still greet you with a smiling face and wagging tail next time they see you. Not only that, but when a dog loves you, they'll love you for life. Doesn't matter if it's been a day or a year, they're sweet hearts never forget a person they've loved. They're with you until the end!
5. More Expressive
For the most part, cats tend to be much more independent than dogs. Although this can be a good thing for some, I can't help saying that I myself would much rather prefer an overly attached and clingy dog over a cold, distant feline. It would be adorable watching them curl up beside your leg as you spend hours binge-watching your favorite show on Netflix, or even waking up in the middle of the night to find that your 30-pound dog somehow made it out of his cage and into your bed just to be closer to you. If you ask me, it shows how much they care for you! There will be times in their life when they'll want nothing more than to just be with you, no matter what you're doing.
Overall, it's hard not seeing that dogs easily make the better pet. Especially when you've got some that would gladly give their life -- and more -- for you. Their love knows no bounds, and even though there will be some times your dog may get on your nerves, never forget that they're one of the few creatures that love you even more than they love themselves.
