Does It Look Like You Can Call Me N*****?

Why you can't say the "N" word.

In a recent article, I glossed over a topic that I feel the need to resurrect in full. But first, let's address the idea of the words "nigger" and "nigga."

If you, at some point in your life, have ever had to question if you were allowed to say these words, then chances are they should not be uttered from your lips at any time. To those who choose to use the word "nigger" freely, and believe that it is something ordinary and just fine, I'm here today to tell you, "No." If you feel that you can freely call another person that word or use it as a joke, then you should not be upset when you are met with incredible heights of rage. Because not only have you placed yourself on a grimy plateau, but you've clearly demonstrated your level of ignorance as a whole.

Let's take a step backward and just look at the word. When taking a casual surf through the net and searching the meaning of the word, no connotation you'll probably find will be of positive nature. Because, at one point in history, people who found themselves, in thought, to be superior, felt the need to use this word; not as a casual friendly nickname, but to scorn the individual on the receiving end. Then, for years, that exact race of people on the receiving end fought for ages to have the disdain removed from their lives, fought to be treated human, fought to be free, fought so that their children and their children's children would not have to endure such pain. Am I saying that this word means pain? No, I'm simply saying it has a relationship attached to the pain endured by a strong and beautiful race of people.

To return to my earlier thought about a previous article, I took to mentioning my distaste for black jokes, and that's why. Well, among many reasons. When you think about these jokes (and I have a dark sense of humor), they are truly not funny. Not one bit has the potential to produce a flare of laughter or even a giggle. Being here I've been around people who have definitely thought that these jokes were okay, along with saying the "N" word so consistently. The killing part is the people who feel they can say it, feel entitled to being able to say it. To those that do feel this way, it should be known that every bit of the waste you would spew out to defend your theory is immediately invalid. It does not matter if you feel cool enough to say it or if another black person gave you that card. And here is the thing with the card: your card is valid only with that person, if there is a card at all.

Being a black male and hearing that word comfortably roll off your tongue makes me take a step back and not take kindly to it at all. And for your defense to be that another black person allowed it is fecal matter. One, not all black people are represented by one person. Two, whoever is hearing you say this probably does not know who gave you the card, that person themselves might just be the biggest coon of the lot. They might actually take joy in hearing you call them a "nigger" or telling black jokes. Bottom line, we don't shuck and jive, we don't buck our eyes, we are our own masters, and don't need to be having the secret desire to strangle you because you said words you shouldn't have.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
